The Student Dining Attendant/Cashier plays a vital role in creating a welcoming, clean, and enjoyable dining experience for students, staff, and visitors at Southwestern Oregon Community College. This position is primarily responsible for operating the cash register, assisting guests with transactions, maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the dining area, and ensuring a positive atmosphere for all patrons. Additionally, this role includes playing background music to enhance the dining experience, restocking essential items, and providing friendly customer service.

As a front-of-house team member, the Student Dining Attendant/Cashier helps foster a friendly, efficient, and community-oriented environment while gaining valuable hands-on experience in food service, hospitality, and customer relations. This position is ideal for students looking to develop communication, teamwork, and multitasking skills in a fun and fast-paced setting while enjoying the flexibility of working on campus.

*Up to 15 hours per week*
Cashiering and Dining Support (100% of Time)
  1. Act as cashier; Operate the cash register by processing payments accurately, handling various forms of transactions, and reconciling sales at the end of each shift—all while providing friendly and helpful customer service to students, staff, and the public. 
  2. Fills and wipes off condiment containers. Restocks napkin and eating utensils.
  3. Wipes down dining tables and chairs. Keeps dining and service areas clean during and between service times. Sweeps and mops dining hall. 
  4. Cleans and sanitizes equipment, utensils, appliances, work surfaces, serving and storage areas to comply with health and sanitation regulations. Maintains work areas in an acceptable safe and sanitary condition.
  5. Curate and manage background music to enhance the dining atmosphere, ensuring a pleasant and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.
  6. Complete basic cleaning tasks of the dining hall, such as sweeping, mopping, taking out trash, and maintaining a tidy dining space.
  7. Preform all daily opening and closing duties as required.
Performs Other Duties and Special Projects as required/assigned.Who We're Looking For:

  • Food Safety Conscious – Must obtain an Oregon Food Handler Card within 30 days of hire (SWOCC covers the cost!).
Bonus Points If You Have:
  • Previous customer service or cashier experience (not required, but a plus!)
  • ServSafe Certification
