Job Summary:
The Teacher under the guidance of the Education Services Manager is responsible for creating a safe,
supportive, quality, and enriching learning environment and for building meaningful relationships with
children and families in accordance with NH State Child Care Licensing Rules, Head Start Performance
Standards, NAEYC Accreditation Standards, American Disabilities Act. The Pyramid Observation Tool
(TPOT) and The Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS). SCS Head Start Teacher Assistants
will use and implement the Creative Curriculum to fidelity, assist in all screenings and become
competent in Teaching Strategies Gold (TSGold®) for child assessment.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for creating and maintaining a high-quality learning environment following the NH
Standards, The Pyramid Observation Tool (TPOT), The Classroom Assessment Scoring System
(CLASS) and all SCS Head Start Policies and Procedures.
- Responsible for Curriculum Development planning, preparing and implementing the Creative
- Responsible for all screenings, assessments, and American Disabilities Act. Work collaboratively
screening deadlines. Observe children and record child observations into TS Gold to fidelity
daily. Collaborate with the Teacher to initiate and participate in Child and Family Reviews, Care
Planning Learning, Parent Teacher Conferences, and Home Visits. Assist the teacher with
following IEPs.
- Responsible for being a professional by participating in Pre-service, Post-Service, Professional
meetings, and weekly Center Staff meetings. Demonstrate the ability to build meaningful,
collaborative relationships with all children, families, SCS staff and any other community partners
on or off site or in the classroom.
- Responsible for abiding by the NAEYC Code of Ethics
- Responsible for performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:
- A minimum of a baccalaureate or advanced degree in early childhood education awarded by a
knowledge area: Child Growth and Development
- Or a baccalaureate or advanced degree and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early
focused on children awarded by a regionally accredited college or university; and have passed
the Praxis II or have 24 Early Childhood Credits including at least 3 credits in the following core
knowledge area: Child Growth and Development
- Must be able to produce documentation of education before the start date.
- Must pass NH State Licensing requirement for background check for fingerprinting and criminal
record check and Head Start requirement for sex offender check before hire
- Certification in child first aid and CPR (program will provide upon hire)
- Classroom experience with pre-school children (Head Start experience preferred).
- At times, when there is a recognized teacher shortage, the Director of Head Start program will
have the discretion to hire a strong candidate based on the potential candidate’s experience and
education even if the candidate does not meet the SCS Head Start Teacher Job Description but
meets the Head Start Performance Standards.
