Compensation Information
The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time. Sr. Interregional Strategist: $87,950 - $112,190

The Sr. Interregional Strategist leads the effective execution of interregional market processes under SPP’s seams agreements and serves as the primary point of contact for members, seams neighbors, and internal departments. This role requires strong communication, relationship building, and collaboration across SPP, neighboring utilities, stakeholders, regulators, and other RTOs/ISOs.
The ideal candidate independently identifies and advances improvements to seams agreements and market coordination processes, supports the full lifecycle of interregional market initiatives, and provides policy guidance from design through implementation. This role requires the ability to understand and communicate complex technical and policy matters while working closely with internal teams, external stakeholders, regulators, and neighboring utilities.
Key Responsibilities
This is a full-time position. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Work hours may vary based on organizational and operational needs, as determined by management. Occasional extended or nonstandard hours may be required.
Travel Requirement
This position requires occasional travel (approximately 10-20%)

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and maintenance of SPP’s seams agreements and recommend improvements to interregional market coordination processes
- Negotiate and coordinate modifications to SPP’s seams agreements related to congestion management, market coordination, and other seams-related market activities
- Serve as a primary point of contact for SPP’s seams agreement responsibilities with members, stakeholders, regulators, neighboring entities, and internal departments
- Support the Seams Advisory Group and associated task forces, including developing meeting materials, coordinating internal input, presenting information, and taking meeting minutes
- Develop business process and procedure documentation and support compliance with SPP’s seams agreements
- Represent and communicate SPP’s interests and positions in stakeholder, regulatory, and industry forums
- Support cross-functional market processes, including governing document management, project priority review, and strategic initiative coordination
- Analyze proposed process and system changes to determine market and operational impacts
- Support Markets Strategic Initiative Requests and other special projects through scoping, scheduling, coordination, impact assessments, execution, tracking, and reporting
- Provide technical expertise to SPP committees and working groups
- Support FERC filings by providing data and assisting with testimony and filing letters
- Research and analyze the design of other RTO/ISO markets
- Serve as a mentor for junior-level employees and as an example of SPP’s culture in support of SPP’s mission
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or related field and five years of experience, OR eight years of experience without a degree
- Seven (7) years of relevant job-related experience in excess of the educational requirements above
- Ability to recognize and address strategic issues important to Markets
- Knowledge of electric market concepts and ability to apply understanding in unique analysis
- Proficient at organizing and conducting complex technical and analytical studies
- Skilled at analyzing complex issues and communicating results to diverse stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to understand strategic challenges and position solutions to address them
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Advanced degree
- Experience with Open Access Transmission Tariff, Integrated Marketplace Protocols, NERC Reliability Standards, and FERC regulatory orders of regional significance to SPP Markets
- Experience in the electric utility industry, database management systems, data analysis, and ad hoc report writing
- Experience in the electric utility industry in the Western Interconnection
- Experience analyzing and evaluating power system behavior
- Experience in contract negotiation in a business environment
