Interim Senior Accountant – Year-End Close Support (Contract)
Contract Duration: 8 weeks
Compensation: $65 - $80 per hour, depending on experience
Location: Hybrid
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Interim Senior Accountant to support our year-end close process. This role is hands-on and execution-focused, with primary responsibility for reconciling balance sheet accounts—many of which will need to be built or rebuilt from the ground up. The ideal candidate is comfortable stepping into an environment that is behind schedule and can quickly bring structure, clarity, and progress.
In addition to closing activities, this role will assist in documenting and establishing repeatable policies and procedures for balance sheet reconciliations to support future closes.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed balance sheet account reconciliations, including identifying and resolving variances
- Build balance sheet reconciliations from scratch where documentation or schedules do not currently exist
- Research historical activity to support reconciliation conclusions
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or process breakdowns impacting the close
- Collaborate with the Controller and accounting team to prioritize critical accounts
- Assist with year-end close activities, including support for audit readiness
- Develop and document standard reconciliation templates, policies, and procedures
- Recommend practical improvements to strengthen controls and close efficiency
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience (senior-level required)
- Experience working with ERPs
- Strong experience with balance sheet reconciliations and month-/year-end close
- Proven ability to work independently and make progress in incomplete or messy environments
- High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable digging into historical data and resolving open items
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliation models)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in interim, consulting, or turnaround environments
- Experience creating or formalizing accounting policies and procedures
- Trimble Spectrum experience a plus
