Classroom Teacher (K–5) SouthSide Elementary Charter School – Providence, Rhode Island Posted: June 20, 2025 Salary: $42,000 – $72,500 per year Position Type: Full-Time School Year: 190 academic days 6 professional days Daily Schedule: 7:15 AM – 3:15 PM (1 hour lunch and 45 minute planning daily) About SouthSide Elementary Charter School SouthSide Elementary Charter School is seeking a caring, nurturing, and creative classroom teacher to join our team. Teachers use ongoing assessments and data analysis to identify student needs, tailor instruction, and support continuous improvement. Teachers receive regular feedback and coaching from school leadership and peers and are expected to hold themselves accountable for student learning outcomes. Our extended school day and school year allow teachers to maximize learning time and provide students with more than eight hours of high-quality instruction each day. Teachers are expected to collaborate closely with colleagues to plan rigorous, engaging instruction that supports the academic, social, and emotional development of all students. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Plan and deliver academically rigorous units aligned to: Rhode Island Grade Level Expectations Common Core State Standards Next Generation Science Standards Use the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework to plan instruction Teach core academic subjects including: English Language Arts Mathematics Science Social Studies Design lessons and assessments that build foundational skills and promote higher-order thinking Implement the Workshop Model of instruction across academic subjects Differentiate instruction based on student needs, interests, and learning styles Data & Student Learning Use a Data Cycle of Inquiry to analyze student performance and plan instruction Set Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) that are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly Maintain accurate student records including: Attendance Grades Lesson plans Progress reports Classroom Culture & Student Support Create and maintain a positive, inclusive classroom culture Implement Responsive Classroom practices to foster a supportive learning environment Use the Collaborative Problem-Solving approach to proactively address student behavior Reinforce school-wide expectations aligned with SouthSide’s core values Integrate strategies that support students’ social-emotional development Collaboration & Professional Engagement Collaborate with teachers, specialists, administrators, and community partners Co-plan and co-teach when appropriate Participate actively in professional development Contribute to the development and refinement of SouthSide’s curriculum Attend and participate in family engagement events and school activities Family & Community Engagement Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and classroom activities Build strong, respectful relationships with students and families Partner with families to support student success Professional Expectations SouthSide teachers are expected to: Thrive in a collaborative professional environment Demonstrate strong organizational skills and meet deadlines Maintain professionalism aligned with the school’s mission and values Support school-wide initiatives and community engagement efforts Complete other duties as assigned by the Director Above all, SouthSide teachers are committed to doing whatever it takes to ensure students succeed.
