What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool & Die Maker / Precision Machinist position at Southpointe Precision?
Experienced Tool & Die Maker / Precision Machinist
Southpointe Precision — Fort Myers, FL
We are looking for an experienced machinist — not someone looking to learn machining.
Southpointe Precision is a small, established tool & die and precision machining shop in Fort Myers. We build injection molds, fixtures and other close-tolerance tooling.
We are looking for an experienced Tool & Die Maker / Precision Machinist who can come into our shop and work independently.
We are a small “mom-and-pop” shop, and that’s intentional. You will work directly with the owner and be part of the decisions that go into building the tooling. You’re not just another employee number in a large manufacturing facility.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Read and understand engineering drawings, tolerances, fits and GD&T
- Set up and operate CNC mills and CNC lathes
- Set up and operate manual mills and manual lathes
- Manual surface grinding
- Select appropriate cutting tools, workholding and machining methods
- Determine speeds and feeds
- Precision measurement and inspection
- Troubleshoot machining problems
- Understand how to approach unfamiliar machining jobs
- Take pride in producing accurate, quality work
- Be comfortable working on tooling where the finished product may be one-of-a-kind rather than hundreds of identical parts
- Be reliable and dependable
One very important point:
We do not have the time to teach someone how to be a machinist.
We have hired people in the past with the intention of training them, and the reality is that our workload does not allow us to provide that level of training.
You need to already know how to machine, set up, measure, troubleshoot and make decisions on your own.
What we can do is help an experienced machinist learn our specific equipment, workflow and software.
Our CAD/CAM environment includes SolidWorks and CAMWorks, and we are happy to help the right person become familiar with our particular workflow. You do not have to already be an expert in our software.
We can teach you our software. We cannot teach you the trade.
What makes this shop different
If you’re looking for a large manufacturing company with hundreds of employees, production quotas and layers of management, this probably isn’t the job for you.
- Build something different every day
- Solve machining problems instead of simply pushing a cycle-start button
- Work on molds, fixtures and precision tooling
- Have direct access to the owner
- Have your experience and judgment actually matter
- Work in a small shop where quality is more important than production numbers
- Take pride in seeing a project go from a print to a finished piece of tooling
Then we’d like to talk to you.
Compensation:
Pay will be based on experience and demonstrated ability.
We are willing to pay for someone who genuinely knows the trade. We are much more interested in finding the right person than simply finding the least expensive person.
Pay: From $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
Benefits:
- Paid time off
- Vision insurance
Work Location: In person
Salary : $30
