SouthernCarlson is a national distributor of construction, fastening, industrial, MRO, and janitorial supplies. Founded in 1947, we combine a broad product offering, industry expertise, and hands-on service to help customers keep their facilities running safely, efficiently, and without downtime.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

This is a field-based, business development–driven sales role focused on MRO products and solutions supporting manufacturing, industrial, and facilities customers.

You will:

  • Sell MRO products and programs including safety, fasteners, tools, abrasives, electrical, chemicals, maintenance supplies, and related solutions.
  • Actively prospect new business through cold calling, referrals, and lead follow-up.
  • Manage and grow a defined book of MRO accounts by building long-term customer relationships.
  • Conduct on-site visits to understand equipment, processes, and maintenance needs.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce downtime, improve reliability, and consolidate customer spend.
  • Close new accounts and expand existing ones through upselling and cross-selling across MRO categories.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to manage orders, deliveries, and resolve account issues.
  • Stay organized while balancing prospecting, field visits, quoting, and follow-ups to hit sales targets.
  • Maintain strong product and application knowledge and stay current on industry trends and customer challenges.

This role requires significant time in the field, not behind a desk.

 

YOU MAY BE A GOOD FIT IF YOU

  • Have 1 year of sales, business development, or customer-facing experience (MRO, industrial, manufacturing, or distribution experience strongly preferred).
  • Are comfortable hunting for new business and don’t rely on inbound leads.
  • Understand industrial or facility environments and can speak confidently with maintenance, operations, and purchasing decision-makers.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
    Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Take ownership of results and hold yourself accountable.
  • Are organized, detail-oriented, and follow through on commitments.
  • Enjoy solving problems related to uptime, safety, and efficiency, not just selling SKUs.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Can meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs occasionally.
