Position Summary

This position serves as a live-in professional staff member with the Residence Life Department. Housing and a meal plan are included in the compensation package. Within Residence Life, this position focuses on enhancing students' quality of life in the assigned residence hall, fostering community, promoting student safety and well-being, and assisting with facility operations. This position will also assist the Associate Dean of Student Affairs with administrative duties.

Salary: Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System Salary Schedule C3-4 (Salary range: $30,870 – $80,945 annually)

Benefits: Full time employees are entitled to the College’s benefit package to include: PEEHIP, retirement, leave (annual, sick, and personal).

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Adhere to a flexible work schedule, including participation in an on-call rotation requiring availability during evenings, weekends, and overnight hours.
  • Provide administrative supervision and oversight for residence hall operations.
  • Develop, with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, policies, procedures, and budgets for enhancing residence life and plan activities to fulfill established goals.
  • Assist in formulating and revising residence hall rules and ensure cooperative group living standards are maintained.
  • Supervise the room assignment process for new and returning students.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records for each resident, including emergency contact information and health-related documentation, in compliance with FERPA and applicable privacy laws.
  • Prepare and submit necessary reports, including incident reports, to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs in a timely manner.
  • Conduct regular inspections of rooms and common areas, documenting and reporting damage or maintenance needs as required.
  • Serve as a welcoming, professional host to parents and campus visitors in the residence hall.
  • Notify residents via email or other approved communication channels when physical mail or packages are available for pickup.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees or in leadership roles as requested.
  • Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and schedule Resident Assistants and other residence hall staff, providing ongoing coaching and professional development opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety codes, regulations, and institutional policies.
  • Inform residents of regulations regarding safety, security, and emergency procedures.
  • In collaboration with Campus Safety, schedule and document required emergency drills, including fire and severe weather scenarios, and maintain all required records.
  • Serve as a communication hub between the residence hall and the administrators of campus programs — including Athletics, Student Life, and Performing Arts — to ensure awareness of student activity affiliations and to facilitate timely, appropriate communication when issues arise, consistent with institutional policy and applicable law.
  • Maintain a system of key control and residential access management.
  • Provide front-line crisis support to residential students, including serving as an empathetic first point of contact, connecting students with appropriate campus and community resources, coordinating with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, Campus Police, and emergency medical services as needed, and notifying parents or guardians in accordance with institutional policy.
  • Fulfill mandatory reporting obligations under Title IX, the Clery Act, and institutional policy by promptly reporting disclosures of sexual misconduct, crimes, or other reportable incidents to the appropriate college official. Investigative and adjudicative responsibilities rest with the designated institutional administrators.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Associate Dean of Student Affairs.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An associate's degree is required within 12 months of the employee’s start date.
  • Related work experience in residence life, student affairs, or a comparable field is required.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in higher education, counseling, social work, or a related field.
  • Prior experience as a Resident Assistant or Residence Hall Coordinator.
  • Experience supervising student staff.
  • Familiarity with FERPA, the Clery Act, and Title IX reporting obligations.
