Southern Transport is looking for an Human Resources Generalist who can be a trusted resource for employees, managers, and leadership.
This role is not primarily about processing paperwork. It is about helping people solve problems, conducting fair and thorough workplace investigations, managing employee leave programs, coaching managers through difficult conversations, and ensuring HR issues are handled consistently and professionally.
The ideal candidate is organized, level-headed, and comfortable handling sensitive employee matters. They know how to listen, gather facts, ask questions, and make sound recommendations. They understand when to act independently and when to escalate issues appropriately.
This position serves as a key partner to leadership and helps ensure employees receive timely support while managers receive practical guidance on employee relations and performance matters.
What You’ll Do
Employee Relations & Workplace Investigations
- Serve as a resource for employee concerns, workplace conflicts, attendance issues, and performance matters
- Conduct thorough and objective workplace investigations
- Gather facts, interview involved parties, document findings, and provide recommendations
- Coach managers on performance management, accountability, and difficult employee conversations
- Assist with disciplinary actions, corrective action plans, and terminations
- Help ensure employee concerns are addressed fairly and consistently
Leave Administration & Compliance
- Manage employee leave programs including FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers' compensation coordination, and other leave requests
- Maintain accurate leave records and documentation
- Communicate regularly with employees and managers regarding leave status, restrictions, and return-to-work plans
- Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and company policies
- Escalate complex or high-risk matters appropriately
Training & Organizational Support
- Assist with employee orientation and onboarding programs
- Deliver training on HR policies, performance management, workplace conduct, and related topics
- Support managers with employee development and coaching efforts
- Help strengthen management capability across the organization
HR Operations
- Maintain employee records and HR documentation
- Support employment actions including new hires, promotions, transfers, and separations
- Assist with offer letters and onboarding activities as assigned
- Support HR projects, reporting, and organizational initiatives
What You Need to Succeed
Required
- Experience in employee relations, investigations, performance management, or workplace conflict resolution
- Strong judgment and decision-making ability
- Excellent communication and listening skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Comfort working in a blue-collar, operations-focused environment
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on commitments
Preferred
- Experience as an HR Generalist, HR Business Partner, Employee Relations Specialist, Safety Professional, Operations Manager, or similar role
- Experience supporting transportation, construction, manufacturing, logistics, industrial, oilfield, or other field-based operations
- Experience with FMLA, ADA, workers' compensation, or leave administration
- Experience conducting workplace investigations
- Experience delivering employee or manager training
