DISTINGUISHING JOB CHARACTERISTICS
Performs duties designed to improve student recruitment, retention, graduation, work-based learning opportunities, and post-graduation employment and/or transfer outcomes among Computer Technology students. Facilitates student academic plans to support graduation, post-graduation employment and transfer options. In collaboration with the college recruiter, the Navigator will actively participate in general and specific recruiting activities and actively support the Ohio Code Scholar students participating in CCP in accessing post-graduation pathways. Further, they will collaborate with Student and Academic Support Services to best meet the needs of students in the Computer Technology program and will serve as the program advisor for new and returning students. The Navigator will frequently prepare and share data-informed highlights of student progression. Employment is contingent upon ongoing grant funding and performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinates activities of the Computer Technology program regarding student recruitment, retention, work-based learning, and outcomes in collaboration with other College departments and activities.
Coordinates with the other college departments to organize and implement a well-organized, professional communication strategy for prospective and returning students.
Fosters a relationship with students to facilitate individual professional goals and academic pathways relevant to the students’ needs and circumstances.
Serves as a general point of contact for students as they navigate through the program, ensuring they have access to college resources as well as making referrals to external resources.
Leads in planning and implementing special events to support Computer Technology recruitment efforts. Including but not limited to advising students of eligible industry-recognized credentials available in the program; Handshake registration and utilization; and badging opportunities for milestones and trainings.
In collaboration with program faculty, keeps college leaders informed of unique scheduling and service needs and nuances to best meet student needs.
Frequently prepares and reports on recruiting, retention, progression, and outcome trends among students in the Computer Technology pathway.
Develops and maintains collegial relationships with the representatives of the industry partners and other partners, including those a part of the Ohio Code Scholar program, to recognize needs and explore solutions.
Maintains data necessary to evaluate trends in student recruitment, retention, work-based learning, and student outcomes.
Collaborates with the Ohio Code Scholar Network to support CCP students in Computer Technology in transitioning to credential pathways post-graduation.
Assist with the recruitment, records, and activities associated with the Choose Ohio First Scholarship program, with emphasis on the Computer Technology student pathways.
Supports faculty in their efforts to promote professionalism among students in preparation for a career in Computer Technology.
Responds to all incoming communication, records messages, and responds in a timely manner to all inquiries, making timely referrals with follow-up as necessary.
Maintains positive public relations with students, parents, the general public, and other internal and external stakeholders. Provides routine information and answers general questions.
Works assigned schedule (including early mornings and evenings as needed). Exhibits regular and predictable attendance.
Maintains confidentiality of records and information.

Computer; printer; calculator; copier; scanner; telephone; postage machine, and other standard office equipment.

Student and other information covered by FERPA guidelines and agreed to in the College’s FERPA Confidentiality Agreement; and confidential or sensitive information included in the College’s ERP system; confidential salary data and other confidential data included in graduate surveys.

USUAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly uses manual dexterity when working on the computer, performing production typing, and completing other related tasks. The employee also regularly talks and hears when interacting with students and the general public. The employee frequently sits for extended periods of time, and occasionally stands and walks. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision, with the ability to adjust focus when working on a computer screen or reading.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: project management, data collection and maintenance, administrative duties including organizational management, scheduling processes, standard business office practices and procedures; higher education processes; English grammar, spelling, sentence structure and punctuation; Microsoft Office Suite; computer operations; basic mathematics; reporting formats. Knowledge of effective and ethical use of Artificial Intelligence.
Ability to: Meet deadlines and priorities; exhibit a pleasant public manner and telephone etiquette; dress professionally, originate correspondence; work independently; exhibit attention to detail; originate an attractive and functional typing format; organize and file documents according to alphabetical, numerical and subject order; apply ethical standards to work situations; make work decisions in accordance with SSCC’s values; show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences, and promote an harassment-free environment; embrace and support constructive change; work efficiently and effectively to improve college operations; consistently follow safety and security procedures and practices; develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, learning community, associates and general public; contribute toward building a positive team working environment; treat others with respect as representative of SSCC.
Skill in: developing a supportive student/educational partner relationship while maintaining professional boundaries; establishing plans to support the success of the unique student situation; developing work management including the coordination of multiple projects; word processing, application of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook,; application of adobe acrobat software; operation of standard office equipment; office organization; creating functional and professional electronic report formats; verbal and written communications; performing mathematical calculations including decimals, percentages and fractions.
QUALIFICATIONS
An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework, and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
At a minimum, the applicant must hold an Associate’s degree, with an ideal candidate also possessing knowledge of academic advising and holistic student support in a higher education setting.
Applicant must successfully pass required background checks in accordance with Southern State Community College’s policies and procedures and applicable laws.
Ability to document identity and employment eligibility as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
