Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces for painting through blasting techniques such as abrasive or media blasting to remove rust, old paint, and contaminants.
- Apply coatings using various methods including brush painting, roller painting, spray painting with conventional or airless sprayers to achieve smooth, durable finishes.
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints to determine proper surface preparation and coating specifications.
- Maintain safety protocols by utilizing respiratory protection, adhering to safety regulations, and following proper handling procedures for hazardous materials.
- Use hand tools and power tools for surface preparation tasks such as sanding, scraping, or minor repairs before painting.
- Conduct visual color comparisons and inspect finished surfaces to ensure color accuracy and coating quality meet project standards.
- Assist in renovation and restoration projects by performing tasks like plastering, caulking, trim carpentry, masonry work, or fixture installation as needed.
Requirements
- Proven experience in construction or industrial painting environments with a focus on shipyard or marine applications.
- Skilled in surface preparation techniques including construction site surface prep and blast cleaning methods.
- Familiarity with construction estimating processes related to painting projects is a plus.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints accurately.
- Experience with various coating systems such as industrial paints, marine coatings, or specialty primers.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, paint sprayers (including airless), brushes, rollers, and scaffolding/ladders safely.
- Knowledge of safety regulations specific to construction sites including respiratory protection and hazard communication standards.
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations related to coatings application.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent visual color comparison skills for consistent finishes.
- Construction site experience with familiarity in blueprint reading and renovation procedures is highly desirable.
