Southern Preparatory Academy is seeking a passionate and mission-driven Spanish Instructor to join our academic team, primarily focusing on Spanish language and Hispanic cultures. Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction in high school Spanish; support middle school introductory language courses when needed.
- Develop and implement immersion-style lesson plans that bridge vocabulary and grammar concepts with real-world communication and cultural context.
- Facilitate frequent interactive activities, ensuring students master speaking, listening, reading, and writing proficiencies.
- Integrate cultural literacy into the curriculum, helping students understand the diverse history, literature, and traditions of the Spanish-speaking world.
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and varying levels of linguistic proficiency.
- Foster a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, risk-taking in language production, and a disciplined approach to study.
Student Support & Classroom Environment
- Establish a positive, structured classroom culture that supports academic and personal growth, specifically emphasizing active participation and mutual respect.
- Maintain high expectations for student conduct and effort, consistent with Southern Prep’s values and military structure.
- Provide individualized support, including intervention and enrichment, to ensure all students master core linguistic competencies.
- Collaborate with academic and residential life staff to ensure a holistic approach to student success.
Professional Collaboration & Growth
- Participate in regular faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and school events.
- Communicate proactively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, oral performance, and academic standing.
- Contribute to cross-disciplinary initiatives, such as integrating Spanish history or literature with social studies and English language arts across the curriculum.
- Support the Academy’s mission by modeling integrity, professionalism, and a lifelong commitment to learning.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Near-native or native fluency in Spanish, with a strong grasp of grammatical structures and cultural nuances.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex linguistic concepts to diverse learners.
- Resilience and the ability to work collaboratively within a structured academic environment.
- A completed apprenticeship or previous teaching experience is recommended.
Preferred:
- Teaching experience at the high school level.
- Proficiency in instructional technology and digital language-learning tools.
- Willingness to support extracurricular activities, such as a Spanish club, cultural excursions, or coaching.
Pay: $20,000.00 per year
