Southern Preparatory Academy is seeking a passionate and mission-driven Science Teacher to join our academic team, primarily focusing on Chemistry and Physics. This role is vital for fostering scientific literacy and analytical thinking, providing students with the rigorous laboratory and mathematical foundations required for college-level STEM success. We expect all instruction to support the Academy’s broader goals of developing young men and women of character, integrity, and leadership. The ideal candidate will embrace the Academy’s whole-person philosophy, maintain high academic standards, and prepare students for future success in honors, and cross-departmental collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

● Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction in high school Chemistry and Physics; support middle school physical science when needed.

● Develop and implement inquiry-based lesson plans that bridge theoretical concepts with real-world applications.

● Facilitate frequent laboratory experiments, ensuring students master data collection, safety protocols, and the scientific method.

● Integrate mathematical problem-solving into the curriculum, helping students apply algebraic and trigonometric concepts to physical phenomena.

● Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and varying levels of mathematical proficiency.

● Foster a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a disciplined approach to experimentation.

Student Support & Classroom Environment

● Establish a positive, structured classroom culture that supports academic and personal growth, specifically emphasizing lab safety and responsibility.

● Maintain high expectations for student conduct and effort, consistent with Southern Prep’s values and military structure.

● Provide individualized support, including intervention and enrichment, to ensure all students master core scientific competencies.

● Collaborate with academic and residential life staff to ensure a holistic approach to student success.

Professional Collaboration & Growth

● Participate in regular faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and school events.

● Communicate proactively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, lab performance, and academic standing.

● Contribute to cross-disciplinary initiatives, such as integrating science with math or technology across the curriculum.

● Support the Academy’s mission by modeling integrity, professionalism, and a lifelong commitment to learning.

Qualifications

Required:

● Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Science Education, or a related STEM discipline.

● A strong grasp of laboratory safety procedures and the ability to manage scientific equipment.

● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse learners.

● Resilience and the ability to work collaboratively within a structured academic environment.

● A completed apprenticeship or previous teaching experience is recommended.

Preferred:

● Teaching experience at the high school level.

● Proficiency in instructional technology and digital data-collection tools.

● Willingness to support extracurricular activities, such as a robotics club, science fair, or coaching.

Pay: $38,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
