Job Title: Machinist
Location: Polkton, NC

Reports To: Machine Shop Supervisor / Production Manager

Position Overview 

The Machinist is responsible for operating CNC machines, manual lathes, and other machine tools to produce high-quality precision components that meet strict engineering and safety standards. This role requires reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings, setting up and adjusting equipment, and performing accurate measurements to ensure parts are machined to exact specifications. Working closely with engineering and quality assurance teams, the Machinist helps troubleshoot machining issues, optimize workflows, and maintain smooth production operations. The position also involves deburring and finishing parts, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Through precise workmanship and technical expertise, the Machinist plays a key role in ensuring the reliability and performance of final products and supporting the company’s commitment to excellence. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Operate CNC machines and manual lathes to manufacture precision parts according to engineering specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine machining requirements.
  • Set up, adjust, and maintain machine tools, including tool and die equipment, for optimal performance.
  • Perform precision measuring and inspection of machined parts using appropriate gauges and instruments.
  • Deburr and finish components to meet quality standards and prepare parts for assembly or shipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with company policies and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineers and quality control personnel to resolve machining issues and improve processes.

 

Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience operating CNC machines and manual lathes in a machine shop environment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Proficiency in precision measuring techniques and the use of measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge of machine tools, machining processes, and tool and die operations.
  • Certification in machining or CNC operation from a recognized technical institution is a plus.
  • Familiarity with CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software.
  • Ability to perform deburring and finishing tasks to high-quality standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Skills such as CNC machine operation, blueprint reading, and precision measuring are essential for accurate component production and adherence to engineering specifications. Daily use of machine tools and manual lathes enables high-precision shaping and finishing of parts, while tool and die knowledge supports proper setup and maintenance of equipment. Deburring and finishing abilities help ensure final components meet quality and readiness standards. Preferred skills like CAM software proficiency and advanced machining certifications further strengthen process optimization and continuous improvement efforts. 

Additional Note 

This position is not limited to the duties listed above. Supervisors may assign additional tasks as needed to support production and operational requirements. 

 

Salary : $20 - $28
