Job Overview
Southern Contracting is seeking an experienced Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive bids for large-scale federal infrastructure and facility projects. As a key member of our Design & Technical team, you'll review proposals, perform detailed take-offs, and develop cost estimates that win projects while maintaining compliance with federal requirements. This role is ideal for a seasoned estimator who thrives under deadlines and wants to play a pivotal role in building projects that support our country's critical infrastructure.

Key ResponsibilitiesAs an Estimator, you will:
- Review RFPs, drawings, and specifications for federal projects.
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs and prepare comprehensive civil/site cost estimates.
- Solicit, review, and analyze subcontractor and vendor proposals.
- Develop and assemble full cost proposals, ensuring compliance with FAR, DFARS, and Davis-Bacon requirements.
- Collaborate with project managers and field teams to ensure constructability and accuracy in estimates.
- Support change orders, claims, and pricing negotiations as projects progress.
- Contribute to team development by sharing expertise with junior staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
- 4-7 years of estimating experience in civil construction; federal contract experience required.
- At least 2 years of experience with federal contracts (NAVFAC, USACE, or GSA preferred).
- Strong knowledge of FAR/DFARS, prevailing wage laws, and federal compliance requirements.
- Skilled in estimating software (e.g., HeavyBid, RSMeans, Sage, or similar) and Excel.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively under pressure.
