Role Description The Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Biloxi, MS, responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for mechanical construction and service projects. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing plans and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, analyzing labor, material, and equipment costs, and soliciting and evaluating vendor and subcontractor quotations. The Estimator collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and field teams to develop competitive bids and proposals, while identifying potential risks and value-engineering opportunities. The role also involves maintaining organized estimate documentation, updating pricing databases, and participating in bid reviews and negotiations to support successful project awards.
Qualifications
- Experience in construction or mechanical estimating, including reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, and specifications.
- Proficiency with estimating software, digital takeoff tools, and standard office applications (e.g., Excel, Word).
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with attention to detail in quantity takeoffs, cost breakdowns, and bid summaries.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with project managers, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple bids, deadlines, and changing priorities.
- Understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, piping, or related trades) and current construction methods and materials.
- Knowledge of basic contract terms, bid processes, and industry standards; familiarity with safety and compliance requirements.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Prior experience in commercial or industrial mechanical contracting is preferred, but candidates with strong estimating aptitude will be considered.
