JOB SUMMARY  

This position is a full-time, 12-month teaching position requiring a teaching load of 27 hours per academic year. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the faculty member will serve on committees and fulfill additional functions, as assigned by the chief nurse administrator. Teaching will primarily consist of the instruction for the ADN program, which includes evenings and weekends.  However, teaching for the BSN program may also be required. Faculty rank is commensurate with education and level of nursing education experience.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS 

Reports to: Chief Nursing Administrator

Supervisory Responsibility: N/A  

Indirect Supervisory Responsibility: N/A

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but is not limited to the following: 

  • Classroom and clinical teaching
  • Simulation and lab responsibilities
  • Committee responsibilities, as designated
  • Program development responsibilities that correlate with level of experience
  • Attendance at university functions, faculty meetings and other events, as required
  • Chapel attendance as time permits, in accordance with teaching schedule
  • Student advising after first year of teaching

 

ADDITIONAL/NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

All remaining duties are considered "nonessential" within the context of the ADA, which means that the function could be reassigned to another employee in order to allow a disabled individual to hold the position.  Alternatively, the manager could try to provide a reasonable accommodation so that the disabled individual could perform the function.

EDUCATION   

 

Required Education:

 

Master's in Nursing

 

Preferred Education:

 

Doctorate in Nursing


 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

 

Required:  Unencumbered State FL RN License  


 

EXPERIENCE 

 

Required:

 

A minimum of 5 years professional nursing experience in the field as an RN is required.

 

Preferred:

 

A minimum of 2 years nursing education experience is preferred.

Experience in the fields of medical-surgical, critical care, pediatrics, maternal-child, and psychiatric nursing is desired.

  

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

 

Required:

  • Teaching, Advising, SIM/LAB
  • Medical-surgical and critical care knowledge is required
  • Ability to teach across the curriculum. 
  • Personal commitment to teach in a Christian university and be in agreement with the mission of Southeastern University


 

 Preferred:

  • Maternal-child and pediatric nursing knowledge is desired
  • Psychiatric knowledge is desired


 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Requirements: 

  • Mobility: Ability to walk for extended periods and stand for 8–12 hours.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Capable of lifting, pushing, pulling, and positioning patients or equipment, often ranging from 25 to 50 pounds.
  • Body Mechanics: Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach (including overhead).
  • Endurance: Ability to sustain repetitive movements (such as CPR compressions)
  • Vision: Close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, with depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Hearing/Speech: Ability to clearly hear and communicate with students, staff, and patients.
  • Fine Motor Skills: Hand-eye coordination for handling equipment, such as syringes, computers, and medical devices.
  • Sensory/Smell: Ability to perceive smells (e.g., in clinical safety situations)
  • Environment: Exposure to clinical environments, which may include blood, bodily fluids, and potential needle sticks.
  • Hazards: Ability to work in potentially stressful environments.
  • Scheduling: Must be able to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends, as needed for course instruction.
  • Travel: Ability to travel to various clinical sites

Monday - Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, plus Evenings and Weekends as per class schedule


 

TRAINING

 

All new hires and employees transferring into a new position will have a 90-day probationary period within which to learn the functions of the job and to be evaluated. Following the probationary period, the employee can transition to regular status, have the probationary period extended in order to receive more training, or employment can be terminated. Required compliance training is as follows:

  • SEU promotes a safe working environment. Employees are responsible for completing assigned tasks safely and efficiently, and supervisors are responsible for creating and maintaining a safe work environment. 
  • Employees must report any unsafe work conditions or practices, as well as any near-miss incidents, to their supervisor and Risk Management. 
  • Work-related injuries must be immediately reported to Security and Human Resources. When life or limb are at risk, please dial 911. Supervisors and employees should ensure that injury/accident reports are submitted to the Office of Human Resources within 24 hours of the incident. 
  • Emergency Employees report for or must remain at work in emergency situations.  Dismissal or closure announcements do not apply to this position, unless instructed otherwise by your direct supervisor or a member of the Leadership Team.  



 

SCREENING

 

All full-time positions at SEU are deemed security-sensitive and require background checks. Employees required to drive their own personal vehicle, a rental car or an SEU vehicle in performance of their duties must pass an MVR records check and meet the requirements of the University’s insurance carrier in order to meet the requirements of the position.
