Job Description

Title:  Sub Crossing Guards
 
Qualifications:

1. Good interpersonal relationship skills (pleasant, friendly, sense of humor).
2. Working knowledge of adolescent students' behavior and developmental characteristics.
3. Able to take charge in emergency situations.
4. Self-starter; sees a need and performs it.
5. Valid first aid certificate.

 
Reports to:  Building Principal (or designee).
 
Job Goal:  
               To maintain a safe, pleasant crossing for students on streets designated by Southeast Polk
               Community School District and a city.
 
Performance and Responsibilities:

1. Receive training from the city where the crossing is located.
2. Receive and be responsible for any equipment provided by the city.
3. Monitor the behavior of students as they arrive and leave the crossing area.
4. Monitor the traffic conditions and plan a safe crossing for students.
5. Monitor the behavior of students as they cross the street.
6. Report any student creating a disturbing atmosphere to the principal's office.
7. Avoid lecturing or arguing with students.
8. Provide an appropriate role model for the students.
9. Be available to meet with the principal and/or students in a given situation, when requested.
10. Maintain confidentiality on sensitive information.
11. Other duties as assigned.

 
Terms of Employment:

1. Hours assigned as needed.
2. Rate of pay is established by the Board of Education.

 
Evaluation: 
               Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on
               Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
