Title:              Payroll Specialist
Hours:          7:30am-4:00pm M-F
Location:      District Office

 

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of a 2-year degree (Associates Degree) preferred.
    1. Experience and advanced training in payroll, data entry, and generally accepted accounting principles, payroll guidelines and procedures.
    2. Proficient in the application and use of personal computers, timeclock system, leave system, electronic forms, 10 key adding machine and other relevant software programs.
    3. Ability to maintain an efficient and effective records system.
    4. Advanced clerical skills.
    5. Neat and accurate record keeping; detail oriented.
    6. Knowledge of tax, IPERS, Social Security, etc., guidelines and capable of filing reports.
    7. Ability to work and communicate well with others.
    8. Positive, productive, dependable, flexible, and team oriented.
    9. Ability to keep confidentialities.
    10. Ability to make decisions within guidelines provided.
    11. Knowledge of Word, Excel, and timeclock systems.
    12. On-line governmental reporting and school background in payroll
    13. Ability to work independently
    14. Detail-oriented and not afraid to ask questions.


Reports to:       Payroll Administrator & CFO

Job Goal:         To accurately, and in a timely fashion, process and distribute payroll and associated information in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and procedures, thus supporting Southeast Polk's mission to be an innovative, educational organization committed to providing learning experiences of superior quality which enable ALL students to successfully meet challenges now and in the future.
 

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Gather and organize payroll data.
  2. Collaborate with Personnel/Human Resources/Benefits Specialist to ensure accuracy of employee lists, pay, and benefits.
  3. Assist new hires with the onboarding process.
  4. Maintain employee payroll records.
  5. Manage phone calls and delegate accordingly.
  6. Resolve payroll discrepancies and answer any employee payroll queries.
  7. Maintain awareness of information affecting payroll matters in negotiated agreements and administrative schedules (Employee Handbook, Union Contract, Etc.) and other mandates.
  8. Assist with the processing and reconciliation of payrolls.
  9. Process verifications of employment.
  10. Assist with garnishments and levies.
  11. Process periodic payroll reports and spreadsheets.
  12. Assist to verify W2 data, reconcile, prepare and distribute W-2's.
  13. Meet deadlines (payrolls, state and federal reports, publications, etc.).
  14. Assist and support business department staff as needed.
  15. Assist with correspondence.
  16. Stays current on federal. State, and local laws and regulations.
  17. Provide an appropriate role model for the district.
  18. Maintain confidentiality on sensitive information.

Other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment:
         1.  Twelve Month Employment
         2.  Hours: 8 hours.  Hours to work are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Hours can vary as needed. 
              Must be willing to work hours necessary to meet payroll and governmental deadlines.
         3.  Salary as determined by Board of Education.

Evaluation:       Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
