What are the responsibilities and job description for the Violence and Injury Prevention Coordinator position at Southeast Louisiana AHEC?
This position serves Louisiana’s Office of Public Health within the Bureau of Family Health (BFH) working to protect and promote health of all Louisianans. The Program Coordinator position will provide program coordination and administrative support to the BFH Data to Action Team (DAT), primarily around DAT’s injury and violence prevention efforts, including coordination of federally funded injury prevention initiatives. This position is primarily responsible for coordinating, overseeing, and performing a wide variety of administrative and program support activities to advance the priorities within the Data to Action Team.
Duties and Responsibilities

Day-to-day responsibilities may include managing schedules, facilitating meetings, identifying and prioritizing items for attention, tracking action plans and timelines, and assisting with grant applications and report development. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for building and maintaining good working relationships with team members across the organization, engaging with multi-sector partners, and will serve on external workgroups in leadership and/or support capacity. The Program Coordinator reports directly to the Violence & Injury Prevention Manager.
Administrative Support
- Provides support for meetings, including scheduling, identifying locations, developing agendas and objectives, compiling minutes, documenting next steps, and tracking action items. This support will primarily be for the Louisiana Child Death Review Panel, Violence and Injury Prevention Team meetings, and the Statewide Suicide Prevention Collaborative.
- Maintains boards and commission member rosters and appointments for the Louisiana Child Death Review Panel.
- Assists managers with timely processing of invoices, other reimbursements, and supply requests. Follow-up with contractors and partner organizations, as needed.
- Supports the Louisiana Violent Death Reporting System and Domestic Abuse Fatality Review teams by assisting with data collection, data entry, partner outreach, records requests, and abstraction to prepare case narratives.
- Ensure appropriate security and confidentiality of data.
- Develops a deep understanding of programmatic priorities, partner roles, and federal grant requirements to support program implementation and continuous quality improvement.
Program and Grant Coordination
- Assists team with grant submissions, federal progress reports, project work plans, and performance monitoring by developing timelines and submission checklists, developing and updating work plans, securing letters of support, and participating in budget meetings.
- Leads coordination activities for grant projects by facilitating partner engagement, tracking project activities and deliverables, coordinating meetings, and supporting implementation of statewide injury prevention initiatives, such as the Statewide Suicide Prevention Collaborative, while supporting State and local Child Death Review panels by building and maintaining panel membership, documenting and tracking panel recommendations, and contributing to initiatives that align with those recommendations.
- Performs additional program support tasks, as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience coordinating multi-partner projects and managing competing timelines across multiple initiatives preferred.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and partners.
- Demonstrated emotional intelligence and empathy including interpersonal skills and experience working with individuals and groups of diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency in virtual meeting/collaboration, project management, and survey software (Zoom, SurveyMonkey, Redcap, Google Forms, etc.), including experience with developing and creating surveys/polls.
- Outstanding organizational skills, ability to be flexible and multi-task with demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and managing multiple deadlines.
- Attention to detail and ability to accurately synthesize information.
- Ability to take initiative, be proactive, and act independently.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Outlook.
Minimum Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree plus two years of professional level experience in public health, social services, health administration, health services, administrative services, or related field.
- Experience in behavioral health, injury prevention, or maternal and child health preferred.
- Prior project coordination experience.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to travel occasionally and access to a means of reliable transportation.

- Minimum starting salary of $52,645. Salary dependent on education and experience.
