What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Coach - Men's Baseball position at SOUTHEAST ARKANSAS COLLEGE?
General Description
This is a part-time position that reports to the Head Coach - Men’s Baseball. The Assistant Coach will assist with operations relating to the men’s baseball team. Responsibilities include assisting with student-athlete development, recruitment, practice planning, ensuring compliance with institutional, conference, NJCAA rules and regulations, and other tasks assigned by the Head Coach. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Comply with applicable rules and regulations of the NJCAA and Region II as they relate to the men’s baseball program
- Assist the Head Men’s Baseball Coach with student-athlete recruitment activities for the baseball team including, but not limited to, tracking the admissions and eligibility process involving recruited student-athletes
- Encourage academic success, retention, and graduation of student-athletes
- Assist the Head Coach in monitoring and supporting the student athletes’ academic progress through monitoring study hall hours, obtaining feedback from faculty members, and promoting graduation
- Maintain equipment and facilities related to the men’s baseball program
- Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting practices and game strategies
- Assisting with team travel arrangements, equipment inventory, and scheduling needs
- Support the recruitment and retention of student-athletes by identifying and assessing talent, communicating with prospective recruits
- Provide individualized instruction and mentorship to student-athletes in skill development and academic progress
- Promote an environment that fosters student success, discipline, teamwork, and respect
- Responsible for building good relationships with players, faculty, staff, boosters, and the community, monitoring possible disciplinary situations, serving as a liaison between players and Head Coach
- Assist with and coordinate travel for the entire program, including logistics for recruiting travel and team travel
- Follow all college procurement policies and procedures
- Contribute to the development and implementation of fundraising activities and community engagement initiatives
- Drive shuttle bus from residence hall to main campus as scheduled
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated success in recruiting and mentoring student athletes
- Experience in academic monitoring and support for student athletes
- Ability to lift/move equipment and participate in extended periods of physical activity
- Must obtain CDL license with P endorsement by August 31, 2026
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma
- Verifiable experience coaching or playing baseball
- Familiarity with NJCAA rules and eligibility requirements
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Prior coaching at college level
- CPR/First Aid certification
