GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Advanced technical work in the operation and maintenance of a Wastewater Treatment Plant. Work is performed under general supervision of the Wastewater Plant Manager or Wastewater Plan Lead Operator.
- Performs work activities associated with the wastewater treatment plant. Ensures safe, effective operation of plant facilities.
- Provides technical support and guidance for subordinates.
- Conducts frequent and periodic inspections of the plant to detect malfunctions and initiates corrective actions.
- Maintains accurate and complete records on plant operation and laboratory data.
- Participates in new worker orientation; provides training and instruction to subordinates.
- Executes work and maintenance schedules, ensures that buildings, grounds and equipment are maintained in proper condition.
- Performs routine laboratory tests and collects samples according to set testing schedules.
- Ensures safe use of all chemicals and mechanical treatment related supplies.
- Reads and records daily plant parameters and equipment readings. Makes adjustments to the equipment based on guidelines set by the Lead Operator.
- Performs regularly scheduled “Stand-By Duty” including responding to after-hours alarms and other emergency situations.
- Performs interior and exterior building maintenance, housekeeping chores and grounds maintenance tasks.
- Performs regularly scheduled preventive and emergency maintenance on all electrical and mechanical plant systems.
- May act as supervisor on an assigned shift.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations, policies, procedures and methods.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing using the English language with superiors, subordinates, and the public.
- Knowledge of basic math and chemistry.
- Ability to work rotating shifts.
- Ability to make and maintain records and reports.
- Good mechanical skills.
Education and Experience
- High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
- Three years experience in treatment plant operations which includes laboratory and maintenance duties as experience.
Licenses, Certifications and Registrations
- Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License
- Class “C” Operators Certificate (Wastewater) as issued by the State of Florida
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
- Heavy lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds).
- Balancing, bending, climbing, crawling, kneeling, standing, stooping, and walking
- Pulling, pushing, reaching, and throwing
- Distinguish colors and odors, depth perception
- Driving and operating equipment
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
- Works inside and outside in various weather conditions with: chemicals, dust, electrical/radiant energy, fumes, gases, grease/oils, noise, odors, and solvents.
- Poor lighting, raw sewage, slippery and uneven surfaces, vibrations.
- Heights, below ground level and in confined spaces.
- In or around moving vehicles and equipment.
- In or around hazardous areas.
- Recommended immunization against Tetanus and Hepatitis A and South Walton Utility Company, Inc. will provide immunizations; the employee may decline.
