Role Description
This is a volunteer role located in Brownsville, Texas, for a Media & Communications Lead. The individual in this role will oversee media planning, communication initiatives, and marketing strategies that support the mission and outreach efforts of STARS.
Responsibilities include managing social media platforms, developing outreach and engagement strategies, creating promotional and educational content, and coordinating communication efforts across the organization. The role also involves working closely with a team of volunteer photographers, writers, designers, and outreach members to strengthen the organization’s visibility and community impact.
The Volunteer Media & Communications Lead will help promote public events, educational initiatives, astronomy programs, and science outreach efforts while maintaining a consistent and professional digital presence for the organization.
Qualifications
• Experience with media planning, social media management, or digital communications
• Strong communication and marketing skills with the ability to create engaging content
• Familiarity with social media management tools and audience engagement strategies
• Experience using Canva or similar creative tools
• Research and analytical skills to help optimize outreach and communication efforts
• Excellent organizational, collaboration, and leadership skills
• Ability to work effectively with volunteer teams.
• Passion for education, science communication, astronomy, or nonprofit outreach
