General Definition of Work
The job of Dropout Prevention Assistant is done for the purpose/s of working with the Dropout
Prevention Coordinator, school guidance counselors, and district Attendance Coordinator and Officer
assisting with students and families with academic, social, physical, emotional and adaptive problems
causing student attendance and/or dropout issues.

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Rock Hill Schools. Rock Hill Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions
- Contact parents/guardians of students who have (3) or more consecutive absences and/or a total of (5).
- Schedules and conducts attendance intervention conferences with students, parents, and administrators.
- Develops and monitors attendance intervention plans.
- Maintains databases such as PowerSchool to track attendance of students.
- Prepare attendance reports.
- Assists with the identification and location of students who have dropped out of school or are no longer attending school.
- Participate in training and meetings to problem solve dropout prevention and attendance intervention solutions.
- Develop reports for the Dropout Prevention Coordinator and others to assist with monitoring students who are at risk of dropping out of school.
- Collaborates with administration and Dropout Prevention Coordinator for students who are facing challenges both academically and behaviorally.
- Works with Dropout Prevention Coordinator and guidance counselors to monitor performance of students repeating a grade to determine intervention strategies.
- Works with community social service agencies, DJJ, probation officers, etc. to provide support for at risk students.
- Prepares documentation for truancy court referrals.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Demonstrates knowledge of attendance laws, truancy regulations, and dropout prevention policies and procedures.
- Understands academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and adaptive factors that contribute to student absenteeism and dropout risk.
- Maintains proficiency in student information systems such as PowerSchool to accurately track and monitor attendance data.
- Develops, implements, and monitors attendance intervention plans for students with excessive absences.
- Contacts parents/guardians regarding consecutive and excessive absences and facilitates attendance intervention conferences with students, families, and administrators.
- Prepare detailed attendance reports, risk-monitoring reports, and documentation for truancy court referrals.
- Assists in identifying and locating students who have withdrawn or are no longer attending school.
- Collaborates effectively with the Dropout Prevention Coordinator, guidance counselors, administrators, district attendance personnel, and community agencies.
- Works with social service agencies, DJJ representatives, probation officers, and other external partners to provide coordinated support for at-risk students.
- Monitors academic performance and attendance of students repeating a grade to determine and support appropriate intervention strategies.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills when working with students and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive student information in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
- Applies strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills to manage multiple student cases and ensure timely follow-up.
- Remains professional, empathetic, and solution-oriented when addressing challenging attendance and behavioral situations.
- Knowledge of and adherence to district, state, and ethical guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced school environment.
- Flexibility and willingness to perform additional duties as assigned to support school operations and student success.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or an associate’s degree (or higher) preferred
Special Requirements
- Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
- Prior to beginning employment, negative TB test results must be provided
Physical Requirements/Work Conditions

- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally required to sit.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, filing, and operating office equipment.

- Visual acuity to read data, reports, and computer screens for prolonged periods.
- Hearing and speaking ability sufficient to communicate clearly with students, in person, by phone, and during meetings.
- Mobility to move between workstations, offices, and athletic or school facilities as needed.
- Ability to bend, reach, and stoop in the performance of routine tasks.
- Stamina to maintain focus and attention to detail while managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Tolerance for occasional exposure to varying temperatures or outdoor environments when assisting with district activities.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Frequent interruptions and immediate attention to unexpected situations are expected.
- May work near moving mechanical equipment and occasionally work near or with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays.

Applicants must submit official transcripts; three professional references with at least one supervisory reference are required, and a copy of the appropriate credentials as part of the application process.
Pre-Onboarding Requirements
As a condition of employment and prior to onboarding, the district will conduct a criminal history background check. The recommended candidate will be required to provide personal information necessary to complete the background check such as date of birth, gender, and race to remain in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
