SM Staff Accountant

South Mill Champs, one of the largest mushroom growers and distributors in North America, has an exciting opportunity to join an experienced and talented Accounting Team at our Corporate Headquarters in Kennett Square, PA.

ABOUT THE JOB:

The ideal Staff Accountant should have a solid mix of technical accounting knowledge, practical experience, and a willingness to learn that enables them to operate independently and support leadership. This position will be responsible for supporting month-end close activities, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and maintaining compliance with internal controls. You’ll work closely with our accounting team and leadership to ensure accuracy, integrity, and timeliness in all financial matters.

The Staff Accountant is a full-time position and will report to the Accounting Manager. This is an in-office position at our corporate headquarters in Kennett Square, PA (19348). You will be responsible for supporting South Mill Champs in the following ways:

• Process standard monthly journal entries as assigned.
• Balance Cash sheets maintained in Excel.
• Produce error-free accounting reports using Sage Intelligence and Excel.
• Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency.
• Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
• Provide input into the department’s goal setting process and assist in the yearly budget process.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP principles.
• Perform general ledger account reconciliations, verify accuracy of data, and report, identify, and correct errors made by both internal and external personnel.
• Supports period financial closes including reviewing financial information the profit and loss statement.
• Assist with vendor statement reconciliation to ensure accurate accruals.
• Assists in the preparation of the annual audit by an outside accounting firm.
• Any other duties as needed.

 Minimum Qualifications

• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Written and verbal knowledge of the English language.                                              
• Bachelor's degree in accounting and a minimum of 2 years of experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, WORD and Outlook.            
• Ability to learn Windows based Accounting software.                                                  
• Experience with Sage 100 and ADP platforms preferred.
