What are the responsibilities and job description for the 7319 Instructional Monitor II - SMS position at South Middle School?
BASIC FUNCTION: Serve as the lead instructional monitor in charge of providing a safe and quality environment for students, typically in a credit recovery or an in-school suspension setting.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- Monitor students on a one-to-one basis, in small groups or in large groups to ensure their safety; follow procedures to safeguard the health and safety of students.
- Plan, organize and implement various training activities for students.
- Recommend materials needed to carry out activities planned.
- Confer with teachers, when needed, concerning student behavior.
- Promote positive parent and child interactions and activities.
- Participate in staff activities and in special training programs.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Safe practices in classroom and playground activities.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Basic record-keeping techniques.
- Health and safety regulations.
ABILITY TO:
- Learn child guidance principles and practices.
- Communicate and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and staff, both orally and in writing.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years of age and supply proof of:
A high school diploma or GED and passed the Kentucky Paraeducator Assessment;
or completion of a minimum of 48 semester hours of study at an institution of higher education;
or an associate (or higher) degree.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Also requires a physical exam, TB risk assessment, CAN check, a criminal background check and drug screen. This position is 181 days per year; 7.25 hours per day.
This is for the 2026-27 school year. Please note if a new hire, your first paycheck will be September 15, 2026.
