Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

• Master’s Social Work degree (or it’s equivalent or higher) from an accredited college or university AND a Michigan School Social Worker Credential

OR

Limited Master’s Social Work License (LLMSW) or Master’s Social Work License (LMSW)

AND

310 Letter from an accredited college or university

Responsibilities:

• Adheres to the NASW Code of Ethics, Michigan School Social Work standards, district policies, and applicable federal and state laws.
• Demonstrates professional judgment, cultural responsiveness, and a commitment to continuous professional growth.
• Participates in professional development, team meetings, district committees, and other activities that support student success and school improvement.
• Maintains effective working relationships with students, families, staff, administrators, and community agencies.
• Maintains confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, MARSE, and district requirements.
• Serves as a member of multidisciplinary evaluation teams and conducts social-emotional and/or behavioral assessments, observations, interviews, and other evaluation activities as assigned.
• Prepares comprehensive assessment reports and presents findings during eligibility, annual review, and reevaluation meetings.
• Uses multiple sources of data to identify student social, emotional, behavioral, attendance, and mental health needs and collaborates with school teams to address barriers affecting learning, attendance, engagement, and school participation.
• Participates in and supports the implementation of Child Study, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Section 504 processes, and special education services related to behavioral, social-emotional, and mental health needs.
• Provides individual and group social work services to eligible students in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Section 504 Plans, and approved general education intervention plans.
• Delivers evidence-based social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health interventions designed to improve student functioning, educational access, self-regulation, coping skills, problem-solving skills, conflict resolution skills, and positive peer relationships.
• Conducts ongoing progress monitoring and adjusts interventions based on student response and data.
• Assists in addressing chronic absenteeism and attendance concerns through collaboration with students, families, school personnel, and community agencies.
• Provides crisis assessment, intervention, safety planning, and follow-up services as needed.
• Serves as a member of the school's crisis response team and participates in post-crisis planning and debriefing activities.
• Reports suspected abuse, neglect, or other safety concerns in accordance with Michigan law and district procedures.
• Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Positive Behavior Support Plans, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), behavior contracts, and other individualized supports.
• Collaborates with staff to implement restorative, trauma-informed, and evidence-based behavioral support practices.
• Consults with teachers and support staff regarding student social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs.
• Supports the implementation of social-emotional and behavioral components of IEPs, Section 504 Plans, Health Plans, and other student support plans.
• Participates in annual review and reevaluation meetings and provides progress updates regarding social work services and goals.
• Maintains accurate and timely records of assessments, service contacts, case notes, progress monitoring data, schedules, caseload records, quarterly progress reports, and other documentation required for special education compliance, service delivery, Medicaid/service capture reporting, and district, state, and federal requirements.
• Serves as a liaison between home, school, and community agencies to support student success.
• Collaborates with families to identify needs, problem-solve concerns, and connect students with community-based resources and services.
• Provides families with information, resources, consultation, and opportunities for participation through conferences, team meetings, and collaboration with community partners.
• Promotes a safe, supportive, inclusive school environment by supporting district initiatives related to social-emotional learning, student wellness, positive behavior, mental health awareness, attendance, engagement, and school climate.

• Performs all other duties related to school social work services as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

• Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and community agencies.
• Ability to read, analyze, and prepare reports, evaluations, records, and correspondence.
• Ability to use computers, district software, and standard office equipment.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout school buildings and grounds for extended periods.
• Ability to conduct observations, meetings, and student services in a variety of school settings.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and respond appropriately during behavioral, emotional, or mental health crises.
• Ability to lift and/or move light to moderate materials and equipment as needed.
• Ability to travel between district locations and community sites as required.
• Ability to attend meetings, trainings, and school-related events that may occasionally occur outside the regular workday.
• Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
