Duties
- Plan, organize, and facilitate a variety of recreational activities, including games, arts and crafts, music therapy, and outings that cater to residents’ interests and abilities
- Assist with the development and implementation of individualized activity plans for residents with dementia or memory care needs
- Support residents in participating in activities that promote physical movement and cognitive engagement, including assisting with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) when needed
- Coordinate with nursing staff and caregivers to ensure activities align with each resident’s care plan and health status
- Foster a lively, inclusive environment by encouraging social interaction among residents and staff
- Manage activity supplies, equipment, and scheduling to ensure smooth operation of daily programs
- Maintain accurate records of resident participation and activity outcomes to monitor progress and inform care planning
Experience
- Prior experience in recreational therapy within assisted living facilities or nursing homes is highly desirable
- Demonstrated experience working with seniors, individuals with disabilities, or those requiring memory care such as Alzheimer’s or dementia care
- Background in caregiving or long-term care environments that involve social work or home & community care is beneficial
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage residents and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Familiarity with aging issues counseling and supporting residents through social or emotional challenges
- Experience managing schedules for multiple activities while adapting to changing resident needs
- Knowledge of senior care best practices including assisted living protocols, dementia care strategies, and recreational therapy techniques
