JOB LOCATION : Main Campus

DEPARTMENT: POINT OF CARE TESTING

SCHEDULE: Full Time, 8 HR Day Shift, 0800-1700

POSITION SUMMARY

Supports / oversees POCT processes and promotes optimal patient outcomes. Develops, evaluates, and revises standards and policies and procedures for point of care testing. Serves as a resource for Nursing Staff and other health care providers in performance of POCT. Functions to optimize patient outcomes by providing full assessment and monitoring of performance of POCT, and by resolving issues/problems, and assessing and documenting POCT staff competency. Provides regular and impromptu education and consultation services in POCT. Review literature for trends in POCT, and evaluate and develop new POCT procedures. Monitor current CLIA certifications for all outside entities of the organization that perform POC tests.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Current MT certification or must have certification within 18 months of hire, with at least 2 years laboratory experience, which includes experience in bench work and leadership/teaching experience.
• Flexible in work schedule, assignments, workloads, setting priorities and utilizing problem solving techniques.
• Ability to formulate letters, memos, document clinical information, create policies and procedures, and provide learning opportunities.
• Ability to analyze regulations, standards, and clinical issues related to patient outcomes.
• Excellent verbal, written, and behavioral communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with and assess learning/training needs of various non-Lab healthcare personnel.
• Ability to plan and conduct educational programs for a wide range of healthcare personnel based on objectives and effectiveness of programs.
• Ability to understand the duties and responsibilities of non-Lab personnel that perform POC testing and how such interact with POC performance.
• Utilize variety of office, educational, clinical and non-clinical equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS- ADA INFORMATION

Works primarily in Hospital, Laboratory setting, and office or classroom/meeting areas. Primarily daytime hours with flexibility required meeting educational needs. Considerable walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting (occasionally in excess of 25 pounds). Mental effort required to accesses, plan, and make or recommend decisions in complex environment. Likely to be exposed to blood/body fluids, including infectious diseases.
