License Practical Nurse

General Summary:

With independent or guided direction, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for assisting primary care providers-physicians and mid-level providers by providing general nursing care, patient screening, and clinical support. Performs laboratory procedures by following specific instructions, standard procedures, and techniques.

Employment Status: Hourly – FSLA Non-Exempt Status

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Obtains the vital signs, tests for glucose, urinalysis, pregnancy, hemoglobin of patients, and records all findings in EMR progress notes.
• Prepares patients for examinations.
• Assists the physician with health checks.
• Prepares and administers vaccines for infants and children.
• Enters required data within GRITS and EMR.
• Patient teaching about medications and procedures.
• Assists the Providers with medical procedures.
• Generates request to replenish stock, and inventories medical supplies and medications.
• Communicates with hospitals, pharmacies, health departments, clinics, and private doctor offices.
• Gives immunizations, injections, and oral medications under the supervision of the physician.
• Coordinates referrals between Specialty Providers.
• Scans hardcopy medical documents into EMR and label.
• Phlebotomy
• Assists in answering phones.
• Works at other locations to fill in during staffing shortages as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of OSHA guidelines.
• Skill in preparing and maintaining records.
• Knowledge of medical procedures, medications, and terminology.
• Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of medicine to provide ongoing patient care.
• Ability to communicate clearly and react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Typical Working Conditions:

• Frequent contact with staff, patients, and the public.
• Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medical preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer in a normal office environment.
• Work may be stressful at times and may require occasional evening or weekend work.

Qualifications:

• Active Georgia LPN license.
• Current CPR Certification
• Strong Computer Competency.
• Ability to work within a team-based structure.
• Ability to work within a fast-paced clinic.
