As a school recognized for academic excellence and committed to holistic experience for our students, the South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) invites applications for a SC NEXUS Curriculum and Instruction Specialist.
The position responsibilities include developing curriculum in advanced energy and energy resiliency, providing instruction, coordinating the implementation of programming, and supporting other Outreach Center programs and initiatives during the academic year and summer as they relate to GSSM's SC NEXUS Education and Workforce Center (EWC) Project. Due to the statewide delivery of the curriculum, travel is required during the school year and summer program months for this position. Travel varies depending on where the learning experience is being delivered, and it may include extended nights.
The SC NEXUS Curriculum and Instruction Specialist is a time-limited, grant-funded, 12-month position with benefits available. Compensation is competitive based on credentials, experience, and other unique qualifications. Specific job functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Creating a curriculum related to the SC NEXUS project for students and teachers that is engaging and inspiring, focuses on content mastery, builds real-world connections, incorporates the use of learning technologies, is aligned with the mission of GSSM and the mission and goals of the Outreach Center and SC NEXUS, and is available to be implemented during the academic year and summer.
- Delivering instruction to students and teachers on the GSSM campus and at partner schools across the state during the academic year and summer that is related to the SC NEXUS project, aligned with the best STEM educational pedagogical practices and is aligned with the mission of GSSM and the mission and goals of the Outreach Center and SC NEXUS project.
- Traveling off-site to deliver curriculum and instruction related to the SC NEXUS project. Providing curriculum and instruction related to the SC NEXUS project to students and teachers who participate in on-site and off-site academic year and special academic events, such as STEM festivals.
- Collaborating with the Curriculum and Instruction team and the VP of Outreach to assess the impact of the curriculum and instruction delivered on the SC NEXUS project and assist with the preparation of reports.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor's degree in science, mathematics, engineering, STEM education, or a related field is required.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Demonstrated understanding of effective pedagogy, enthusiasm for teaching and developing STEM curricula, excellent interpersonal skills, and written and oral communication proficiency.
- Experience collaborating with diverse groups and individuals. Some weekend and evening work is required.
- Travel is required for this position during the school year and summer months due to the statewide delivery of learning experiences.

Preferred Qualifications
- An advanced degree and knowledge specific to advanced energy and/or energy resiliency is preferred.
- Experience with curriculum design, providing professional development, and using instructional learning technologies is preferred.
