What are the responsibilities and job description for the Highway Maintenance Worker III - Crew Leader (61035470) position at South Carolina Department of Transportation?
Job Responsibilities
Operates sign truck used in hauling of signs and necessary equipment of supplies needed in daily operations; erect and repairs state regulated signs on state of right of way in accordance with SC Traffic Manual. Performs visual inspections to confirm correct positions of signs for public view. Must record position and erection of sign(s) and other structures within right-of-way using iPad to ensure thorough and accurate sign assembly records maintained.
Uses hand tools such as saws, hammers, crowbars and post hole diggers in performing necessary duties in sign erection; uses small power tools such as skill saws and hand drills in the building of barricades and earth drills used in digging holes for signpost and delinators.
Places stop bars, cross walks, turn arrows etc. by hand either with paint or thermoplastic. Make sure that markings are properly placed and in accordance with state specifications to ensure the safety of the traveling public.
In Foreman's absence, assigns work to the crew and completes entry of work and crew time into the computer system correctly and in a timely manner.
Responsible for the proficient setting up of complex and accurate work zones in accordance with current standards. Utilizes comprehensive technical drawings for the installation of traffic control devices and work zones.
Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations, may include extended hours and/or 12 hour shifts. May operate medium and heavy equipment during emergency and inclement weather operations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
