Job Summary
To help support and coordinate the daily cleaning of the day-to-day maintenance and operation of South Burlington city buildings. The Lead Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of a building and the surrounding grounds. Their duties include, but are not limited to, vacuuming floors, sanitizing restroom facilities, and collecting trash to ensure the building’s occupants have a clean space.
Examples of Duties
Majority of duties, but not meant to be all-inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned as necessary.
- Mopping wood, concrete, ceramic tile, and other floors to ensure cleanliness.
- Stripping and waxing floors.
- Clean up spills.
- Vacuum and shampoo rugs and carpets, changing vacuum bag when needed.
- Cleaning vents.
- Dusting all surfaces.
- Washing windows and keeping glass clean.
- Maintaining a thorough cleaning supply inventory and ordering new cleaning supplies as necessary.
- Using equipment, including but not limited to commercial vacuums and carpet cleaners.
- Emptying trash cans throughout a building and taking out the trash and recycling nightly.
- Handle emergency cleaning and upkeep requests.
- Ensure rooms are maintained and fully equipped.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment.
- Performs minor repairs and maintenance such as replacing light fixtures or unclogging pipes.
- Assists in cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, kitchens, and break rooms.
- Performs limited grounds maintenance such as mowing and trimming lawns and hedges, and cleaning snow from sidewalks.
- Ensures heating and cooling systems are operational.
- Protects the privacy and confidentiality of clients, co-workers, and agency operations. Complies with City policies to protect confidentiality and integrity.
- Contributes to a positive, fast-paced work environment and responds in a constructive manner to change.
- Documents the provision of care and services in accordance with city policy.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior trades experience in one or more of the following: cleaning, building trades and/or HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, and gas, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must pass a background check.
- Reliable means of transportation.
- Hold a valid driver's license.
