South Bayside Industries (SBI) is currently seeking an Operations Supervisor for our Transfer Station.
This position is on-site and is not eligible for remote or work-from-home arrangements.
POSITION TITLE: Operations Supervisor – Transfer Station
LOCATION: Shoreway Environmental Center, San Carlos, CA
REPORTS TO: Operations Manager
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
SALARY RANGE: $100,000 – $110,000 annually
SHIFT/SCHEDULE: Wednesday–Friday 9:00 AM–6:00 PM; Saturday–Sunday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM; Monday–Tuesday off. Hours may vary based on operational needs.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Operations Supervisor oversees Transfer Station, Transportation, and Scale House personnel, ensuring adequate staffing levels, proper training, and safe, efficient operations.
The position exercises independent judgment in workflow planning, staff deployment, and safety monitoring; communicates operational issues to management; maintains safe and organized workspaces; and ensures personnel and equipment are utilized effectively to meet operational demands.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities listed below are representative of the general duties performed in this role and may vary based on operational needs.
- Ensures the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the Transfer Station.
- Develops and manages employee work schedules, assigns balanced workloads, and monitors performance to ensure operational efficiency.
- Ensures facility cleanliness, organization, and maintenance standards are maintained.
- Promotes a safe, positive, and productive work environment through employee engagement, coaching, and recognition.
- Investigates work-related injuries, vehicle accidents, and incidents; prepares and submits required reports in a timely manner.
- Conducts employee safety observations to ensure compliance with safety and productivity standards.
- Enforces SBI safety policies and procedures, including addressing safety violations and unsafe practices through corrective action or discipline.
- Ensures new employees receive training on safety policies, procedures, and proper equipment operation.
- Identifies potential rule violations, reports findings to the Operations Manager, and assists with corrective actions.
- Administers applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).
- Manages inspection of inbound loads to ensure compliance with allowable contamination standards.
- Manages inspection of outgoing commodities to ensure products meet customer quality requirements.
- Performs special projects and other related management duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree (accredited) preferred; or High School Diploma/GED (accredited) with equivalent experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience in an industrial, construction, manufacturing, recycling, or waste management environment.
- Demonstrated experience working in a union environment.
- Knowledge of and experience with DOT and OSHA regulations.
- Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License required upon hire or within twelve (12) months of hire.
- Knowledge of relevant technical and professional principles, practices, laws, and programs.
- Strong people management and leadership skills.
