Position Overview:
We are seeking to add an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team-oriented staff. The ideal candidate is motivated, detail-oriented, has a great attitude and work-ethic. We are looking for team players and builders who want to grow with our practice.
The Veterinary Assistant has a vital position in the hospital. They have a wide range of responsibilities such as patient comfort and care, assisting doctors and technicians with procedures, as well as assisting kennel assistants with housecleaning responsibilities. They will have frequent contact with clients when assisting doctors with their appointments throughout the day, so they must be able to communicate in a courteous, professional manner. The veterinary assistant reports directly to the practice manager and works closely with the associate veterinarians.
Responsibilities include:
- Collect patient samples
- Clean cages
- Sterilize equipment and clean examination tables
- Restrain animals during examinations or vaccinations
- Observe animal behavior or health condition and report to the veterinarian or technician
- Perform laboratory test and assist with radiographs
- Retrieve animals from their owners and safely bring them to instructed area of the hospital
- Keep accurate records and logs
- Effectively communicate with clients when instructed to do so by veterinarian
- Follow instructions
- Cleaning and laundry
- Animal care and comfort
Must be available to work some Saturdays.
Starting pay depends on experience.
Working Conditions
The Veterinary Assistant job requires a 32-40 hour work week which may include some Saturdays. Compliance with hospital safety and employee policy manual is expected. The Veterinary Assistant will have frequent contact with clients and patients in a fast-paced and changing work environment. He/she must be comfortable working around sick, injured, or unruly animals in an environment where the noise level can be moderate to very loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to reach or feel, climb, balance, stoop, kneel or, crouch. The employee must be able to lift up to 35-40 lbs. unassisted and up to over 100 lbs. with assistance.
Qualifications Desired:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Excellent communication, organizational, and technical skills
- Ability to work under pressure and stay calm in a high-volume and potentially stressful environment
- Demonstrates professionalism and good judgment
- Regular and timely attendance is required
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $24.50 per hour
