Marina Service Technician

South Annapolis Yacht Centre
Annapolis, MD Full Time
POSTED ON 8/22/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 12/20/2026

Overview

South Annapolis Yacht Centre (SAYC) is a family-owned and operated waterfront marina in Annapolis, MD. We are looking for a reliable, hardworking, hands-on Facilities & Maintenance Technician to help maintain our marina, docks, buildings, grounds, and guest amenities.

This is a working maintenance position, not a desk-only management role. We are looking for someone who can troubleshoot a problem, pick up the tools, and make the repair whenever possible. We maintain as much as we can in-house and use professional vendors for larger or specialized projects.

Because we are a small, family-owned company with no corporate oversight, this is a dynamic position with a lot of variety, independence, and opportunity to grow. No two days are exactly alike.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve the appearance and condition of the marina, grounds, docks, buildings, and guest amenities
  • Troubleshoot and repair mild to moderate electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, carpentry, and general maintenance issues
  • Replace electrical breakers and components on dock power pedestals
  • Perform light plumbing repairs in public restrooms and other facilities
  • Troubleshoot basic HVAC issues
  • Replace dock boards, rub rail, ladders, hardware, and other dock components
  • Perform general carpentry and building repairs
  • Assist with landscaping and grounds maintenance
  • Perform light janitorial and cleaning duties as needed
  • Inspect the property regularly and address maintenance issues before they become larger problems
  • Maintain tools, equipment, supplies, and basic maintenance records
  • Coordinate with professional vendors when projects are beyond our in-house capabilities
  • Assist with marina operations, including helping boats arrive and depart and safely securing boats to docks
  • Connect and monitor utilities such as power and water
  • Assist with pump-out, waste disposal, and general marina sanitation
  • Interact professionally with guests, slipholders, vendors, and coworkers
  • Help ensure the property is clean, attractive, safe, and ready for guests and special events

Requirements

  • Is genuinely handy and comfortable using tools
  • Can troubleshoot and repair problems - not simply identify that something is wrong
  • Has working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, mechanical, and general building maintenance
  • Is dependable, hardworking, and takes pride in their work
  • Can work independently and efficiently
  • Ability to read and write
  • Proficient with Microsoft Online Suite or related software as required to complete tasks
  • Has good common sense and problem-solving skills
  • Is comfortable working outdoors and around the water. Must be able to swim.
  • Is personable and enjoys interacting with customers
  • Is willing to work weekends and holidays, especially during the busy season
  • Is looking for long-term employment and an opportunity to grow with a company

Formal trade certifications are helpful but are not necessarily required.

Seasonal Adjustments

SAYC has a very seasonal work environment.
April–October: Our busiest time of year. There is more boat traffic, customer interaction, and a greater need to hustle and respond quickly to the needs of the marina.
November–March: A slower pace allows more time for larger maintenance projects, repairs, preventative maintenance, and property improvements.

Weekend and holiday work is required, especially during the in-season. In-season holidays are floated, while off-season holidays are generally off.

One of the unique benefits of working at a marina is the opportunity to assist boat owners with arrivals, departures, and securing their boats. These interactions can often result in cash tips from guests, providing additional spending money. Tip amounts vary and are not guaranteed.

SAYC Work Advantages

  • Family-owned and operated - no corporate oversight
  • Waterfront, resort-like work environment
  • Highly varied, hands-on work
  • Opportunity to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities
  • Opportunity to grow with the company
  • Beautiful Annapolis waterfront location
  • Small team where your work has a direct impact
  • Additional earning potential through customer tips during the boating season

If you are someone who likes to work with your hands, enjoys solving problems, takes pride in keeping a property looking great, and wants to become an important part of a small team, we would like to hear from you.
