Networking / Smart Hands / Installation Technician Description

Source 1 Solutions is seeking skilled and motivated Network Smart Hands Technicians to provide on-site, hands-on technical support for network infrastructure and equipment, acting as the physical extension of remote teams. This role involves tasks like equipment installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and documentation, all while adhering to safety protocols and procedures. The technician often works under the direction of remote engineering or NOC (Network Operations Center) teams, resolving issues and ensuring smooth network operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Equipment Installation and Maintenance:
- Installing, configuring, and decommissioning network hardware, including racking and stacking equipment, cabling, and performing basic hardware swaps.
- Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
- Diagnosing and resolving physical connectivity issues, performing cable tracing, module/port replacements, and power cycling as needed.
Remote Support:
- Providing visual and physical support for remote teams, including inspections, circuit tests, and following instructions for more complex configurations and repairs.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintaining accurate records of work performed, updating tickets in ticketing systems, and documenting troubleshooting steps.
Inventory Management:
- Managing equipment inventory, assisting with audits, and ensuring proper labeling and organization of cables and hardware.
- Emergency Response:
- Responding to emergency situations and participating in on-call rotations to minimize downtime.
- Coordination and Communication:
- Collaborating with remote teams, providing clear communication, and escalating unresolved issues as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Technical Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of networking concepts, including OSI layers 2 & 3, cabling standards (CAT5, CAT6, fiber), and data center operations.
- Hardware and Software Proficiency:
- Experience with routers, switches, firewalls, and other networking equipment, as well as basic knowledge of operating systems and software applications.
Troubleshooting Skills:
- Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and connectivity issues, including cable tracing, module replacements, and power cycling.
Communication Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with remote teams, documenting work, and providing clear instructions.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and perform physically demanding tasks, such as cable management and equipment installation.
Other:
- Experience with inventory management, ticketing systems, and safety protocols.
