Sound Health Services is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounts Receivable Specialist to join our Revenue Cycle team. This position is responsible for resolving outstanding insurance claims, managing payer denials and appeals, and ensuring timely reimbursement from commercial and government insurance carriers.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in medical insurance billing and accounts receivable management, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage assigned insurance accounts receivable and work outstanding claims to resolution.
- Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), remittance advices, and payer correspondence.
- Contact insurance carriers by phone, online portals, and written correspondence to obtain claim status and resolve payment issues.
- Investigate and resolve claim denials, underpayments, and reimbursement discrepancies.
- Submit reconsiderations, appeals, corrected claims, and supporting documentation as needed.
- Monitor payer filing deadlines and appeal timeframes.
- Accurately document account activity and follow-up efforts within the practice management system.
- Collaborate with billing, coding, authorization, payment posting, and clinical teams to resolve claim issues.
- Identify denial trends and communicate findings to leadership.
- Meet established productivity and quality standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 2 years of medical insurance accounts receivable experience preferred.
- Knowledge of medical billing, insurance claim processing, and reimbursement methodologies.
- Experience working with commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, managed care plans, and Workers' Compensation claims.
- Strong denial management and appeals experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
- Medical coding education or certification is a plus.

Work Environment
This position is primarily remote and involves extensive computer and telephone work. Occasional onsite attendance may be required based on business needs.
