Private Equity Business Development Vice President - Intermediary Focus
About the Role
The Executive Partnerships Director will join the firm’s Business Development team and be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and securing investment opportunities that align with the firm’s strategic objectives and investment criteria. Based in Pittsburgh, New York or selective remote cities, this individual will take a proactive approach to spearheading thematic proprietary deal origination strategies and building long-term relationships with founders and C-Suite executives across target industries. The role requires a deep understanding of market dynamics, industry trends, and competitive landscapes, as well as the ability to collaborate closely with internal investment and operations professionals, executives, and retained industry experts. The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven, strategic thinker with strong organizational skills, who brings a methodical, results-oriented approach to deal origination.
Key Responsibilities
Deal Sourcing & Origination
- Develop and execute strategies to identify and originate investment opportunities aligned with the firm’s investment thesis.
- Nurture relationships with founders, entrepreneurs, C-Suite executives, and high net worth individuals.
- Utilize data analytics, market research, and proprietary tools to identify potential investment targets.
- Research investment themes and develop market maps, conduct sector analysis, and compile target lists of prospective companies.
- Attend industry conferences, networking events, and forums to increase deal flow and enhance the firm's presence.
Relationship Management
- Establish and maintain relationships with founders, company executives, board members, and other key stakeholders.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for potential sellers, advisors, and intermediaries.
- Engage with key industry contacts (executives, consultants, board members, bankers) to expand the firm's network and domain expertise.
- Foster long-term relationships with portfolio companies to ensure alignment with firm objectives.
Firm Initiatives & Coordination
- Manage a robust pipeline of actionable dealflow.
- Support execution of initiatives designed to scale the business development function.
- Recruit for board roles, advisory positions, and executive partnerships.
Market Analysis & Industry Insights
- Conduct thorough market analysis to identify emerging trends, sectors, etc.
- Collaborate with the investment team to develop sector-specific strategies targeting high-potential areas.
Investment Evaluation & Deal Execution
- Collaborate with the investment team to screen and conduct early due diligence on opportunities.
- Present investment opportunities with data-driven recommendations to the investment committee.
Professional Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 5-10 years of experience in business development roles within private equity, investment banking, wealth management, insurance, corporate development, consulting, or related financial services.
- Proven ability to originate and evaluate deals, and to engage senior executives and founders.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with ability to build trust and rapport quickly.
- Proficient in financial modeling, valuation, and market/sector analysis.
- Strategic thinker and self-starter with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation capabilities.
- Highly self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with innovative thinking and ability to navigate ambiguity.
