What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President Private Equity position at Soul Equity Solutions?
Private Equity VP - Healthcare
About the Company
This Private Equityis a lower middle-market private equity firm focused on control-oriented buyouts of founder-owned businesses with revenues under $50 million. The firm has raised over $1 billion across multiple funds and primarily serves as the first institutional capital in these businesses. The firm is located just outside Philadelphia, PA.
About the Role
A lower middle market private equity firm is seeking a Vice President with a proven track record of leading platform deals to join their investment team. This is a partner-track opportunity at a stable, growing firm currently raising its fifth fund (targeting $500–600 million) with 95% institutional capital, a collegial culture, and a strong history of promoting from within.
What Makes This Opportunity Compelling
You will join as the number two on the healthcare investing team, working directly with a Partner who leads the firm's healthcare investments with a focus on medical devices. This is not about finding someone who is already a healthcare expert; it is about finding a strong equity investor who wants to build deep sector expertise and own a vertical within an established platform.
You will have significant autonomy to build and own your healthcare sub-sector, including healthcare services, healthcare IT, tech-enabled services, healthcare software, or life sciences, in areas complementary to the Partner's medical device focus. You will dedicate 70–80% (ideally 100%) of your time to healthcare, developing investment theses, driving deal origination, and shaping the firm's healthcare strategy alongside an experienced Partner.
The Path Forward
This is a true partnership-track role at a firm known for internal promotion and long-term career development. You will have the opportunity to establish yourself as a healthcare specialist, champion your own deals to IC, and position yourself for Principal and eventual Partner as the firm continues to grow. There is potential for a dedicated healthcare fund down the road, and you would be instrumental in building toward that.
Key Responsibilities
Deal Origination & Sourcing
- Develop and execute investment theses in your healthcare sub-sector
- Build and maintain networks of executives, industry experts, and advisors in healthcare
- Drive 3-4 proactive search efforts around 2-3 healthcare investment themes at a time
- Collaborate with industry experts to identify high-potential healthcare market segments
- Leverage the firm's two-person BD team (sourcing 800-900 deals annually) while leading thesis-driven healthcare deal flow
Transaction Execution
- Lead and coordinate the deal process from diligence to closing, including financial modeling, valuation, and negotiation
- Perform in-depth analysis of financial statements, industry trends, and market dynamics
- Manage relationships with legal, tax, and financial advisors during the execution process
- Oversee the preparation of investment committee materials and present findings to senior leadership
- Champion your healthcare deals to IC and drive decision-making
Portfolio Company Management
- Work closely with portfolio companies to drive growth, operational improvement, and strategic initiatives
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial performance across portfolio companies
- Support exit strategies through preparation for sale, IPO, or strategic partnership
Team Leadership
- Mentor and develop Analysts and Associates on the deal team
- Collaborate with internal teams (investor relations, finance, legal) to align strategy and processes.
Deal Pipeline Management
- Maintain a robust pipeline of potential investment opportunities and prioritize resources accordingly
- Maintain relationships with industry experts, advisors, and potential management teams
- Develop and expand healthcare industry knowledge to aid in deal flow
Professional Experience & Qualifications
- 7-10 years of relevant experience, with 3 years in private equity at a buyout-focused fund
- Proven "deal two" quarterback experience - you've led multiple deals through diligence and closing
- Platform deal track record - several successful platform investments closed
- Senior Associate or VP level - ready to step into a day-one VP role
- Strong financial modeling, valuation, and analytical skills
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to influence both internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and perform under pressure
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities
- Interest in healthcare investing and willingness to build sector expertise (healthcare deal experience preferred but not required)
- Knowledge of healthcare sectors (e.g., healthcare services, healthcare IT, tech-enabled services, medical devices, life sciences) is a plus
