School Police Officer

Position available at Indian Valley Middle School beginning on November 2, 2026.

POSITION TITLE: SCHOOL POLICE OFFICER

TYPE: SUPPORT SPECIALISTS

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF PUPIL SERVICES

WORK YEAR: 210 DAYS (August to June)

JOB SUMMARY/ACCOUNTABILITY: Provides for external and internal security of the District campuses. Aids in police investigations and crisis intervention as needed District-wide. Acts as liaison with local law enforcement and juvenile probation and provides preventive educational programs to students and staff as necessary. Office and primary post is located at Souderton Area High School. The School Police Officer shall be armed with a firearm and shall have the same power to arrest as the police of the municipality wherein the school property is located. PA School Code Sec. 7-778. The School Police Officer shall adhere to established School Board policies and procedural guidelines and all government mandated requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED. Completion of Act 120 Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Program plus three (3) years police officer experience. Previous school security experience preferred.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Uphold the duties, responsibilities, and oath of a law enforcement officer
• Provide interior and exterior security for the school facilities at Souderton Area High School
• Conduct and aid in police investigations and serves as District liaison with local and county police departments
• Coordinate the District’s Security Department functions including scheduling for school events and overall general program functions
• Coordinate all security at special events; both internal and external
• Assist with the training and orientation of security personnel.
• Supervise and evaluate the security staff.
• Attend monthly police liaison meetings to stay apprised of potential security issues
• Assist administration with daily discipline issues and crisis intervention as needed
• Collaborate with and assists juvenile probation officer
• Assist Home & School Visitor with home visits as needed
• Serve as monitor and attendant at security station and process identification checks of school visitors
• Monitor parking lots; issue and check vehicle registrations and stickers; issue parking warnings and citations
• Assist with lunchroom supervision
• Assist with fire and other emergency drills
• Supervise campus traffic safety as needed
• Play a lead role in coordinating security in emergency situations
• Complete and disseminate incident reports
• Communicate with students both informally and formally, following appropriate state regulatory requirements
• Provide instruction and resources for students, staff, and community members on safety, crime prevention, and other law enforcement topics as needed
• Participate in and serve on appropriate District committees as directed
• Coordinate and implement Safe Schools initiatives and reports
• Compile and submit state and county reports as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Services
