We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Captive Insurance Accountant to join our financial team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the accounting operations of a book of captive insurance entities, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and delivering accurate financial reporting. Your expertise will support our strategic financial management and regulatory reporting efforts, contributing to the overall stability and growth of our insurance programs. Responsibilities
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger for captive insurance entities, ensuring accuracy in all financial data entries and account balances.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports, adhering to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Conduct detailed investment reconciliations.
- Complete regulatory reporting requirements related to insurance regulations, securities law, and governmental compliance standards.
- Assist with audit preparations by providing supporting documentation and explanations for financial transactions.
- Support internal controls compliance and participate in process improvement initiatives.
- Utilize accounting software Sage and QuickBooks to record transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Perform journal entries, accruals to ensure proper financial recordkeeping.
- Collaborate with the team on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis projects to optimize financial performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Proven experience in corporate accounting with a focus on insurance or captive entities highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, regulatory reporting standards, securities law, governmental accounting, and technical accounting principles.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software Sage and QuickBooks.
- Knowledge of internal control frameworks.
- Familiarity with financial concepts including balance sheet reconciliation, accounts payable/receivable management, journal entries, and financial statement preparation.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.
- Effective communication skills for preparing detailed financial reports and collaborating across teams and with clients.
