Underwriter – Boston, MA

Full-time | Estimated Salary: $80,000–$96,000

Role Overview:

A leading property insurer is seeking an ambitious, intellectually curious Underwriter in Norwood, MA. You will support Account Managers in developing insurance programs for existing and prospective clients while building underwriting and engineering expertise. Candidates may be considered for Underwriter I or II, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide technical support on underwriting tasks: risk assessments, coverage analysis, rating/pricing, reinsurance, policy review, and documentation.
• Support development of insurance programs aligned with client needs and company guidelines.
• Independently manage small to midsize accounts under supervision.
• Maintain knowledge of underwriting standards, policy forms, loss prevention practices, and market trends.
• Assist in exposure identification and analysis using loss prevention reports.
• Participate in underwriting projects, audits, and peer reviews.
• Attend training courses such as Core UW Skills and Client Service Process Essentials.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; CPCU/ARM desirable.
• 3 years in insurance or financial services; underwriting, field, or account engineering experience a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Proficient with computers and adaptable to diverse priorities.
