Leveraged Finance Research Director

An investment management organisation is seeking a Leveraged Finance Research Director to lead fundamental credit research, relative value analysis and investment recommendations across leveraged finance portfolios. The role will work closely with portfolio managers, traders and investment strategy teams while providing leadership and mentorship to investment professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead independent fundamental credit research across assigned sectors and issuers.
- Develop forward-looking views on industry dynamics, profitability, cash flow, technological developments and macroeconomic risks.
- Conduct detailed analysis of company financial statements, financial policies, management teams and credit ratings.
- Assess relative value across issuers, securities and different levels of the capital structure.
- Develop investment recommendations based on risk-adjusted return potential, portfolio strategy, fundamental credit views and relative value.
- Adapt investment recommendations to different portfolio objectives and return mandates.
- Produce concise, decision-useful written research and clearly communicate credit strengths, risks and investment views.
- Partner closely with portfolio managers, traders and credit research professionals on investment decisions.
- Develop and maintain relationships with Wall Street analysts and strategists, credit rating agencies, independent research firms and company management teams.
- Monitor market and industry developments and incorporate relevant information into investment analysis.
- Lead, mentor and develop less-experienced investment professionals.
- Promote strong research, risk management and investment decision-making practices across the team.
- Identify opportunities to improve research processes through technology, data analytics and AI-enabled tools.
- Support the integration of AI and data tools into research workflows while maintaining appropriate controls and data governance.
Requirements
- Minimum 8 years of experience in leveraged finance, fixed income investments or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated record of increasing responsibility and sustained success within investment research or credit investing.
- Strong investment judgement and experience with prudent risk management.
- Demonstrated expertise in relative value investing within a total return mandate.
- Proven ability to manage, mentor and develop investment professionals.
- Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Statistics or a related field.
- Master's degree or MBA preferred.
- CFA designation or progress toward the CFA designation preferred.
- Strong financial statement analysis and credit research capabilities.
- Ability to perform cross-sector relative value analysis and develop well-supported investment recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent prioritisation and ability to manage competing demands.
- Proficiency with Bloomberg, Microsoft Office and Copilot.
- Experience with programming, data analytics or related technology tools is preferred.
- Experience integrating AI-enabled tools into research workflows is a plus.
