SOS Water & Wastewater Services, is currently accepting applications for an Operator with the experience, knowledge and ability required to operate and maintain water and alternative wastewater treatment systems, small commercial collection systems, associated equipment and grounds in a professional, competent, and efficient manner, characteristic of the expected standards set by SOS and the Arizona Dept. of Environmental Quality. To be successful, the Operator requires a high degree of independent judgment in accomplishing the work and maintaining efficient and compliant systems.

Position: This position is for our service area of Sedona and the greater Verde Valley. Must be willing and able to commute and must have reliable transportation. PT IS AVAILABLE.

Essential Skills:

Including but not limited to the following duties and responsibilities:
Perform and complete small commercial and residential wastewater system checks, process control, process control sampling, site security, and record pertinent data, maintain an onsite log and monthly reports of operations and maintenance. Must be able to perform routine maintenance on residential wastewater systems as well as small commercial systems. Will also be required to take water samples and perform preventive maintenance for small drinking water systems.
Actively pursue improvements in effectiveness and efficiency in the operations and maintenance of associated wastewater and water facilities.
Must be occasionally on-call and able to provide 24 hour emergency response for residential units and must be willing to work overtime, holidays and weekends if needed.
It is expected that the applicant will present a professional image as a representative of the Company to the public and clients at all times. Employee would receive company work shirts and an allowance for steel-toe boots.

Requirements:

  • Qualified applicant must be able to pass a background check.
  • Qualified applicant MUST plan to seek a certification for Wastewater or Water Treatment Systems Operator, level I or II for Arizona. OR a comparable certification that can be transferred or acquired within 90 days.
  • Ability to operate and maintain equipment used in the wastewater treatment process.
  • Ability to perform, analyze, and interpret systems analyses for the purpose of making operational adjustments.
  • Knowledge of the mechanical, biological, and chemical processes involved in the operation of alternative residential wastewater systems and small commercial treatment plants.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, inspection, repair, and installation of wastewater treatment system components. This includes outdoor plumbing, pump maintenance, basic electrical, and field work.
  • Records operational data, telemetry readings, work logs and other prescribed work documentation.
  • Following safe work practices, and verbal and written instructions.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb ladders, regularly lift weights up to 50 pounds, and work in a physically demanding environment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.
  • A valid Arizona State Driver's License, or ability to acquire one immediately, and a clean driving record is required. Member must be insurable by the Company standards.

Education/Experience/Certificates/Credentials

  • License: Wastewater (Desired); Water (Desired)
  • Experience: Wastewater Treatment/Collections: 2 years (Desired)
  • Willing to consider related wastewater and water experience in the Armed Forces in a similar position/MOS/AFSC etc…

Work Environment/Location:

The job does require moderate physical requirements, and strength sufficient to lift and move items weighing up to fifty pounds; may be exposed to safety hazards including extreme weather conditions i.e. excessive heat and cold, chemicals, biological hazards, confined spaces and dangerous tools and equipment. Expect exposures to all weather conditions.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Position operates during regular business hours. Occasional evening and weekend work/call back time MAY be required as job duties/emergencies demand. The operator would be using a company work truck during business hours.

PART-TIME is an option.

Travel

The job is mobile and requires daily driving to residential and commercial service sites. Once or twice per year travel for continuing education will be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Language: English (Required); Spanish (Bonus)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and subjected to E-verify.
  • Ideally but not required, 2-3 years of experience in the operations and maintenance of wastewater or water utility operations

This position is as a entry or mid-level Operator for a water and wastewater small business. Owner is a military service member and requires the utmost integrity and strong work ethic in the operator. The owner also believes in flex time to allow for special family events or personal growth opportunities.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
