What are the responsibilities and job description for the Receiving and Shipping Supervisor position at Soprema?
The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor manages, and coordinates activities of workers engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments, and preparing items for shipment such as shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Directly manages, oversees, and mentors Warehouse Material Handlers and Shipping & Receiving Clerks.
2. Facilitates and resolves employee relations issues such as performance, attendance, attitude, and teamwork.
3. Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
4. Determines space requirements and position of shipment in boxcars and trucks and lays out position of shipment.
5. Determines routing and legal load limits of trucks, according to established schedules and weight limits of states.
6. Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, and seals loaded boxcars and truck doors.
7. Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair.
8. Maintains vehicle maintenance report.
9. Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.
10. Compiles records of unfilled orders.
11. Posts weight and shipping charges.
12. Prepares bills of lading.
13. May assist workers in shipping and receiving activities.
14. Complies with all safety, health and regulatory compliance laws and policies.
15. Other tasks and special projects as assigned by manager
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred, or 3-5 years of more related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Ability to obtain powered industrial truck permit and safely operate various types of powered industrial trucks.
3. A demonstrated ability to read and follow formulas and instructions.
4. Ability to perform by not limited to the following tasks, be familiar with and able to interpret packing slips, enter into the computer the correct information, to acknowledge receipt of the goods into the purchase order and processing database.
5. Must be able to fill out bills of lading and be familiar with various forms that are used and required by the major freight carriers.
6. Must be capable of estimating weight and use that information to calculate the cost of shipping.
7. Must be familiar with proper packaging methods and able to interpret visual aids used to convey specific packaging requirements.
8. Experience with UPS/FEDEX online software if desirable. Basic computer competency is preferred (able to use computer for email, basic data entry, locating and retrieving work documents from shared drives).
Working Conditions and/or Physical Demands:
1. Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
2. Must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and /or move up to fifty pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than one hundred pounds
