Senior Research Audiologist

Research audiologists in the Clinical Product Research department are responsible for clinical evaluations of new Advanced Bionics products. The person in this role collaborates with internal development teams, drives the development and execution of clinical evaluations and reports out the product readiness of pre-market products to company stakeholders. These reports provide feedback to the organization regarding overall product readiness, performance, and usability. Research audiologists also collect customer feedback on early concepts and designs, while contributing to market research, and developing documentation that supports the training and use of new products in the field.

Responsibilities:

  • Applies established knowledge of audiological and clinical practice to develop clinical evaluations of new external hardware, software and mobile applications
  • Conducts the human subject testing, analysis, documentation, presentation of results for the clinical evaluations and usability studies.
  • Engages and collaborates with development and regulatory teams to understand the requirements of prospective clinical evaluations. Establishes compliant guidelines for internal clinical studies.
  • Serves as a clinical lead on the project teams, translating input from other technical teams and senior leadership into action items, experiment plans and specifications for the Clinical Product Research team.
  • Collaborates with Marketing and Educational groups in the development of material supporting new product release. Provides knowledge transfer and training to internal staff members on new product use and clinical experience.
  • Ensures compliance with all activities within necessary Class-III regulatory framework


Travelling Requirement: Occasional travel (5-10%) to national conferences, cochlear implant centers, and Advanced Bionics corporate events.

More about you:

  • Doctorate in Audiology required; advanced degree in a related field preferred, along with ongoing professional certification maintenance and continuing education in advanced auditory specialties, neuroscience, or medical device innovation.
  • Minimum five years of clinical cochlear implant or related experience required; research and medical device development experience preferred.
  • Passion for learning, self-improvement, and continuous professional growth, with strong analytical problem-solving skills, a results-oriented mindset, adaptability to changing priorities, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative and empathetic professional with strong cultural awareness, relationship-building skills, stakeholder engagement capabilities, and the ability to facilitate discussions, resolve conflicts, and present effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated initiative, ownership, and leadership in complex clinical and technical situations, including the ability to guide peers, contribute to team decision-making, and mentor or instruct individuals within and beyond the hearing healthcare community.
  • Skilled in conducting audiological evaluations and cochlear implant device programming with accuracy, attention to detail, and timely execution; familiarity with scientific writing, protocol development, hearing aid fitting software, and audiological testing applications is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, Cochlear Implant fitting software, mobile applications, and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and software platforms.
  • Strong understanding of and compliance with regulatory, clinical, and company standards, with experience working in cross-functional and international environments and the flexibility to support global initiatives across multiple time zones.


A minimum of 200Mb/sec download and 10Mb/sec upload speed internet connectivity is required to support any remote/hybrid employee functionality at Sonova

This role's pay range is between: $100,320/yr - $150,480/yr. This role is also bonus eligible.
