Collections Specialist

The Collections Specialist is responsible for managing and collecting outstanding accounts receivable balances. This role involves direct contact with customers to secure payment, resolve billing issues, and ensure timely and accurate collections to maintain healthy cash flow for the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Contact customers via phone, email, or mail to collect outstanding payments.
• Monitor accounts to identify outstanding debts and aging balances.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies or billing issues with clients or internal departments.
• Maintain detailed records of all collection activities and customer interactions.
• Recommend accounts for escalation or legal action as appropriate.
• Prepare regular reports on the status of accounts and collection efforts.
• Adhere to company policies and legal requirements regarding collections and customer communication.
• Collaborate with the finance and sales teams to ensure accurate invoicing and payment processing.
• Negotiate payment plans or settlements within company guidelines when necessary.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
• 2 years of experience in collections, accounts receivable, or a related field.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and accounting or ERP systems (e.g., SAP, QuickBooks, NetSuite).
• Ability to manage multiple accounts and prioritize tasks effectively.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with B2B collections or in a corporate finance environment.
• Knowledge of credit and collections laws and regulations (e.g., FDCPA).
• Bilingual skills may be a plus depending on the customer base.

Compensation: $50,000 to $52,000 annually

Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
