We are looking for a full-time Materials Engineer/Chemist to support our Materials Engineering and Product Development teams, in particular an individual with a background that spans classic materials engineering and chemistry or chemical engineering. We need an individual who loves working in a dynamic environment and is excited to grow with long-term critical technology programs. This position will support the Powders on Demand business unit in the development of novel technologies, processes, and materials in Coatings and Additive Manufacturing markets.
As a Materials Engineer/Chemist, you will be responsible for supporting rapid innovation on large technology development programs with a focus on testing and analysis as well as material and process development. Your efforts will ensure the products we develop today both meet customers’ needs and are scalable to support future demand. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include successfully maturing key technologies through hands-on design and execution of experiments, characterization and analysis of powders and materials, and contribution to the selection of materials and processes.
Required Attributes & Skills
- 0-7 years of practical experience (or 0-4 with MS) in a lab-based environment
- Materials or process engineering background
- Experience in chemical/materials processing, testing, or analysis, such as:
- Wet chemistry techniques (i.e. titrations, filtrations, distillations)
- Analytical equipment (i.e. XRF, ONH, SEM) operation and analysis
- Metallographic preparation techniques (mounting, polishing, etching)
- Desire to engage in hands-on process development and testing
- Desire to develop new skills on the job
- Experience with data entry, handling, and analysis
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Interdisciplinary team player
- Must be a US Person according to FAR 22 CFR 120.15
Advantageous Attributes & Skills
- Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related degree(s), but with clear focus and experience with solid materials or powders
- Equipment operation experience
- Experience working with customers and on customer projects
- Familiarity with handling sensitive information such as EAR, ITAR, and CUI
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with any of the following:
- Powders – metallic, ceramic, or composite
- Thermal spray or powder-based coating and consolidation processes
- Polymer powders or polymer additive manufacturing processes
- Mechanical testing (i.e. tensile, wear, bend, shear testing)
- Chemical analysis of solids
