Position Summary
We’re looking for a driven Collections Specialist to manage aging accounts receivable for SUD treatment claims. You’ll work directly with commercial insurance carriers, negotiate resolutions on outstanding balances, and play a key role in our clients’ financial health. Experience in SUD/behavioral health collections is a major plus, but we’re open to candidates at all levels who bring tenacity and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow up on outstanding insurance claims (commercial, PPO, out-of-network) for detox, residential, PHP, IOP, and OP levels of care
- Call insurance carriers (BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, UHC, Humana, etc.) to resolve unpaid, underpaid, and denied claims
- Work denials and submit timely, well-documented appeals
- Negotiate single case agreements (SCAs) and reimbursement when appropriate
- Identify trends in payer behavior and escalate systemic issues
- Maintain detailed notes in the billing system on every account touched
- Meet or exceed monthly collection goals (bonus tied to performance)
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s or bachelor’s a plus
- Experience in medical collections, insurance follow-up, or SUD/behavioral health billing preferred — but we’ll train the right person
- Familiarity with UB-04 and HCFA-1500 claim forms a plus
- Knowledge of EOBs, denial codes, and the appeals process
- Experience with Availity, CollabMD, KIPU, and Optum Pay is a plus
- Strong phone presence, professional written communication, and the patience to spend hours on hold without losing your edge
- Comfortable working independently and hitting goals
Compensation & Benefits
- $20–$26/hr based on experience
- Performance-based monthly bonus
- Health insurance: 60% employer-paid, up to $600/month
